I’ve done a silly thing. I want to play this game so badly that I’ve bought 2 copies - an older edition and the new one 🙄
Not keeping both long-term. But I’m convinced this game is for me, if I can only put together a session! 😆😩

I didn’t love my 1st play, but I blame expectations vs reality (a theme on this list). I may come to love it, or I may see it as just another remix from the Italian design group.
The real test will be if my wife enjoys it or not. If not, it’s gone!

Why so high on the list? It seems to be a companion piece to my all-time favorite game, Heaven & Ale.
Not much more to say right now, other than more and more of my group are becoming fans of H&A, which may make it easier to convince them to try Riverboat 🤞

Bought this at a con a couple years back, played a quick 2p learning round then and there. Haven’t touched it since, despite being very interested.
I really want to run this one through its paces, play it at least 2x at each player count to evaluate it.

It’s just a classic that I gotta try! If I like it, there’s a decent chance I’ll upgrade to the new edition.
Some circles point to this game as starting the divide between old school German style and modern euros. Gotta know my history!

A weird hill to die on, but this is not an economic game. It has an economic setting, but the mechanisms are NOT economic.
That mismatch of expectations, in combination with the hype, made my 1st play a bit of a letdown. So we try again! I may love it?

I love the cube rails games I HAVE played, so I definitely need to play this one. Bought it secondhand before the latest edition was announced.
Samarkand is also on this list, which has been described as a lighter CE. Guess I’m itching for that experience 😆

Between the Puerto Rico-esque pipeline and the charming theme/presentation, I knew I had to try this one. Which all too often means buying it myself 🙃
First play was 2p, and fine enough. I’m guessing this one shows its strength with more players.

Looks like a glorious, rollicking mess. Auctions, extortion, and a wonderfully cynical theme. I think it will appeal to the part of me that loves The Estates, but possibly easier to detach from the outcome.
Wish I had the original version, that artwork is awesome.

I was thrilled to see this available in the States, even if it has to be via Amazon. I think I can get this one played sooner than later. We’ll see!
3:0 (running in:out count for the collection in 2024)

And it puts me ahead of schedule for my goal to play 2023’s top ten.

I think I played this one before I was ready for it. Ended up just feeling dry and confusing, which isn’t a great combo. But that was quite a while back, and I’m now more able to appreciate the genius of Dr. Knizia 🤓

Bought this used with birthday money a while back, the Hidden Gems podcast had hyped it up for me. (Ep. on John Bohrer)
Supposedly good for different levels of players, I’ll probably take it for a spin with the fam first?

I really like the Friese games that I’ve played, and this one was no exception. I think it’s just hard to get this one to the table when Camel Up is also available.
It doesn’t have the stacking gimmick, but does provide players with a bit more control.

Seems like the stars will have to align for me to play this one, but I’ll probably have this on my shelf until it happens.
I love City of the Big Shoulders, I’ve gotta try an 18xx.

Impressed with the whole package - innovative action selection, solid mix of mechanisms to make up the rest of the game. Great artwork and fun wooden pieces.
It wouldn’t be fare for my game group, but will serve the family well for many years.

As a collector of the Kennerspiel des Jahres winners, I’m also interested in playing the nominees over time. That’s why I bought this one, but it’s been hard to get to the table.
First play was a good intro, but not enough to form an opinion.

Been waiting a while for this to arrive in the States! Really excited to take this for a spin.
Yes, I collect all the SdJ and Kenner winners. No, I don’t have to own all the associated expansions. But this one looks strong.

I’m halfway bracing for disappointment, but so much of this game’s proposition speaks to me. Mostly the auction-esque mechanism, but I also like recipe fulfillment. And I think I care about the theme more than I do most games?

First play went well. I think I was underwhelmed, which again means it was probably just a mismatch of expectations. I shouldn’t’ve been surprised how much it felt like Sushi Go and Imhotep (same designer). Similar scoring schemes, different venues.

1st entry: in: Airlines Europe. Got lucky, grabbed it used for a steal!
BUT I FEEL SHAME.
