Forcing Ukraine to cede the Donbas to Russia in exchange for an American security guarantee is uninspiring. It won’t be any more effective than the guarantees of Budapest. A better solution would be to replace Trump with a US president who would finally throw the Russians out of Ukraine.

It might feel cheaper and easier now, but it's actually far more expensive, bloodier and riskier.
Zelenskyi is asking for what is also in Europe's best interests.

Zelensky is entirely justified in speaking bluntly like this to Europeans. Too many seem willing to see Ukrainians suffer to provide Europe greater time and security, without acknowledging that Ukraine’s fight is their own.
