In my corner of the bass-playing universe there was life pre- and post-Mani. He brought a liquid, melodic funkiness that EVERYONE copied. And when I finally met him he was exactly how you imagined him: joyful, generous, unstarry (& more of a star because of it) and wickedly funny. A life well lived

A few nights away from finishing Iris Murdoch's A WORD CHILD, going to miss it the second I do.

I re-read/loved A SEVERED HEAD over the summer, have previously read UNDER THE NET and THE BLACK PRINCE, got a few more piled up to read.

Pls share any of YOUR Iris love below.

the new Kassi Valazza album is definitely my most played 2025 release so far. I'm such a sucker for moody autumnal psych folk. There are definitely modern elements but they're almost anachronistic because so much of the album feels like it could be 50 years old.

In many ways, it's a conscious refraction of RISKY BUSINESS, casting of Broderick + Pop music bridging back to the '80s,(there's even a Bob Seger song!), only this time, female nudity is de-eroticised, the rich boy ISN'T confident or horny (or having agency), and the woman's the main character...
Infinitely more likeable than the 'raunchy' trailer suggested. Sweet and charming. #NoHardFeelings
