Unacceptable terms to use for Game Boy parts/hardware. Interesting to see how strict Nintendo was about terminology in their software submission requirements.

Found this diagram in the SNES Development Manual. I talked about this in my presentation on video game loudness a few years ago and it's nice to see this as a recommendation in an official documentation. Music, SFX, but also voice acting stacking on top of each other can create distortion.

I never would have imagined that a post from a musicology account would go this viral
I just woke up from a nap and somehow while I was asleep, everyone on the bus has figured out we are not going to the right place

My overhauled guide on dynamic audio in visual novels is now up on the VNDev Wiki! I hope to show how visual novels can make use of more complicated dynamic audio techniques and enable more VN developers to make use of them.

The launch of the University Minnesota’s Video Game Collection is today! Over one year of planning and consulting resulted in this launch. Thankful to everyone who has given advice on starting this, and hopeful it gets past pilot for it to remain permanent! 🎮

Wrote a small program to display the wave form used on the Game Boy wave channel for my thesis. Composers could decide how the wave form on that channel should look and the 32 4-bit values of the currently used wave can be viewed in "wave RAM" (by using an emulator with a debugger).

I just released my code for interactable, randomized rooms in Ren'py!

Randomize props, furniture, and even lighting, and make the assets interactable with a simple point and click system. Using purely screen and scripting language, no external tools needed.

I didn’t have an example of video game dropshipping on hand last week, but one just popped up. This company ”Onix Arena” will sell you an $18 handheld that they didn’t make (and probably never touch through the whole proces) for $60. But that’s marked down from $106, what a deal!

Diagram I drew at 1 am to explain how I like going about looping game tracks that have a noticeable reverb tail.

Green: First measures.
Blue: Rest of the track with its final reverb tail fading into a copy of the first measures at the end of the sound file.
Red: Loop back.
