It’s like we’re 30 pages deep into the instructional manual for a mysterious blinking red light in a malfunctioning appliance.
feels like the average informed citizen shouldn’t have to be getting a crash course in legal and constitutional matters every other day

I’m so excited for the final season of STRANGER THINGS & still plenty convinced that Ti West’s love letter to satanic-panic 1980s slashers THE HOUSE OF THE DEVIL opened the soor for that kind of nostalgia-inflected storytelling—such a delightful movie:

I love to dress up & I actually do dress up for airports & (even so) Duffy's comment is bullshit: there are a zillion excellent critiques on attire and respectability politics, but the main gist is that it's deeply silly to believe in immutable rules for what is and isn't OK to wear &
Duffy: "Trump talks about the golden age of transportation. But the golden age in transportation truly begins with you ... People dress up like they're going to bed when they fly ... so we want to push people as we come into a really busy travel season: Help people out, be in a good mood, dress up"

Warren Zevon's "Werewolves of London" is the greatest werewolf pop song of all time, but La Unión's "Hombre Lobo en Paris" is for sure the second-greatest werewolf pop song of all time (w/ second-greatest incidental howling):

The individual cannot bargain with the State. The State recognizes no coinage but power: and it issues the coins itself.

So delighted that Deborah Shapiro‘s WATCHING THE DETECTIVE is out in the world! I’m a Columbo obsessive but you don’t have to be one to dig into this book’s punch and beauty: it reminds me of Ander Monson’s PREDATOR or Geof Dyer’s ZONA—a book into the mysteries of communing w art.
