Mike Johnson always falsely states proposals he wants to bat down. No one has proposed that ICE agents wear their addresses. The proposal is that dress and act exactly as they did from the founding of the agency until Stephen Miller decided to give it a makeover

Yesterday, five-year-old Liam and his dad Adrian were released from Dilley detention center. I picked them up last night and escorted them back to Minnesota this morning.

Liam is now home. With his hat and his backpack.

Chris Murphy on Fox News Sunday: "What we want in these next two weeks is just to make ICE follow the law. No more of these roving patrols through the cities in which they're demanding that American citizens show their papers. That's what happened in Stalin's Russia."

I think Murphy making this case in this way in this forum shows that he senses weakening support for Trump even among Fox News-viewing Trump voters, and is trying to penetrate the bubble and strip them away.
Chris Murphy on Fox News Sunday: "If you're a conservative in this country, you should care about the fact that your govt is intentionally hurting kids. You should care about the fact that this govt is violating the 4th, 2nd, and 1st Amendment every single day. This is a lawless administration."

Charlie Sykes: It is, in fact, a notable achievement. True awfulness — and a 6% Rotten Tomatoes Score — does not happen by accident. There are many chefs responsible for this stew of awfulness, from the pathetically venal Jeff Bezos, to the fumbly film director, to the charmless First Lady herself.

“I don’t think the president would approve” is Mike Johnson’s sole operating principle.
Mike Johnson on unmasking ICE agents: "It would create further danger ... taking the mask off and putting their names and addresses on their uniforms -- I don't think the president would approve it and he shouldn't"

on this day in 1960 was the start of the Greensboro sit-ins, a compelling stand for civil and human rights, a spark that helped ignite a fire of positive change in America. We can do this today America: the power of love and decency is stronger than the forces of hate and cruelty.

Two things can be true: we’re a competitive authoritarian state with all sorts of efforts to put a thumb on the scale of who has power AND we have sufficiently free and sufficiently fair elections that every month we see the party in power lose.
JUST IN: Democrats flip a red seat in the Texas Senate.

Taylor Rehmet wins against Leigh Wambsganss, a conservative activist who helped lead right-wing efforts to take over TX school boards.

With all early vote, and 95% of precincts, in, Dem up 57/43.

Trump won this seat by 17% in Tarrant County.

Like most of the House, Mike Johnson has only been there in the Trump era. It’s not simply that he’s abdicating his power as a coequal branch, it’s that he doesn’t seem to understand that it *is* a coequal branch.
WELKER: MTG says you're '100% under the direct orders of the WH'

JOHNSON: The president and I work closely together because we have unified govt. That's what the American people voted for

W: Is there any area where you disagree?

J: Yes. But we do that privately. I'm going to support my president.

by the way, a defendant of the stature and credibility of Don Lemon--who 100% isn't running away anywhere -would typically be permitted to answer a summons. Arresting him and putting him in jail overnight was a gratuitous indignity--which is to say part of the point of this performative indictment.

DOJ is Trump's personal law firm that we pay for. Free for him to use its unlimited resources to harass people like Lemon, Lisa Cook or Comey. We collectively pay the price both in our taxes and in losing a nonpartisan legal system. The individual victims must pay ruinous financial costs and stress.
This is about forcing Don Lemon to spend money and time defending himself.

"“They probably don’t have any expectation that this prosecution will stick," legal expert tells me. "But they do know they will put Don Lemon through the grinder in the meantime."
