Nardwuar would be good too.

Nardwuar: Now here's something not a lot of people know about *presents OpenAIs actual financial statements*

Altman (laughing): Where did you get this?

Altman (crying): W-where did you get this?????

Nardwuar: Doot doola doot doo...

Altman: *arrested by FEC*

I feel the tight binding approximation may hold valid in many instances here.

Partially that and partially it's that Thriller (and the rest) is so fucking good. When a monster becomes a principle architect of our culture, we prefer to paralyze ourselves rather than act. There was a window in the late 90/early 00 when the 80s were rejected. But his death closed the window.

Thank goodness his kid is either nonbinary or trans, otherwise he literally would be Keir Starmer.

I was just thinking about this a few hours ago

A positronic brain, to begin with. But that alone is not sufficient.

One of the more eye opening things dabbling with various ML packages in between recording sessions for Beneath the Eyrie, was how they allow effective programs to be built with very little understanding of WHY or HOW they work. Very unsettling stuff!

Britney holds a weekly lecture series for any musician who has gone Platinum. That's where I picked up the basics. I try to get Joey Santiago to go with me but he prefers to read from Ashcroft+Mermin

I would say they are on the same order of stupid given the question was about manufacturing throughput and design. What Cowan asked was essentially: Why not manufacture twice as many GPUs instead of improving transistor efficiency by X2? The answer is "we are doing that. We do both". Not "electrons"
November 19, 2025 at 10:36 PM
Which means absolutely nothing for a GPU. It's a bad proxy! No one uses it! There are better ways to talk about GPUs. Number of electrons is a very dumb way to talk about GPUs. We might disagree about the quality of Indie Cindy (very good), but we should be able to agree on this.
November 19, 2025 at 8:35 PM
He's not gonna give you a payday. Number of electrons "moved' (whatever that means. Ill-defined!) is a terrible proxy. That's why we both know it isn't in common use, or use at all, as a proxy. C'mon man, I know you didn't write Debaser but you should at least know this simple stuff.
November 19, 2025 at 8:27 PM
Using electrons as a shorthand for energy is even stupider actually, and deserves far more mocking.
November 19, 2025 at 7:52 PM
I'm the frontman of The Pixies, which practically makes me a semiconducting physicist, and "move more electrons" is an equally stupid and nonsensical thing to say. Maybe even more stupid. If current is the issue, just say current (Note: current is not the issue).
November 19, 2025 at 7:50 PM
Extremely funny and obvious that someone recently explained pair generation/recombination to him, and his only takeaway was 'we need more electrons'. I'm just Frank Black of The Pixies but even I know a child could grasp the fundamentals better than this.
November 19, 2025 at 7:41 PM
Couldn't agree more
November 18, 2025 at 11:32 PM
Same. I might not even be the frontman for The Pixies if they taught me complex analysis as analytic geometry though, so I guess it all worked out in the end.
November 15, 2025 at 11:16 PM
This is true, actually.
November 12, 2025 at 3:28 PM
Despite being the frontman for The Pixies, I once interviewed with them for a laugh, at the behest of a good friend in their employ (who is now dead to me).

My experience is it's run by naive fools who think they're the specialist girls and boys on the planet. Zero reflection or self-awareness.
November 11, 2025 at 12:09 AM
I just had this same conversation!
November 11, 2025 at 12:01 AM
It seems like actually yes, you were comparing the two though. Otherwise why would you post it. If not to make a comparison.
November 8, 2025 at 5:54 PM
I'll be there. Front and center.

Do it in secret with the lights turned off and the curtains drawn.

The Experience appears to be an AI music generator, which recently pivoted into music for literal babies. Another track of theirs, touching on a more dear to Rudy's heart than even 9/11
