Fare Gate Mystery #2

The passageway running along USPS and into the South Station concourse appears to be a DEP-licensed Chapter 91 path, requiring public access 24/7.

That passageway opens directly into the track access area, bypassing the fare gates! No observable solution is under way. 🤔

Could be wrong; looking forward to confirming at South Station:

The cloaked fare gates (pic #1) appeared to be installed at random distances apart from each other. Was my mind playing tricks?

The fare gates (#2) appeared to be set apart at different distances, but in a repeating pattern.

The Downtown Crossing tree has just been installed.

It’s a whole tree, not the half-tree that used to be mounted over Macy*s covered walkway.

It’s a heathy, beautiful tree. The base is sturdy, modest and quite complimentary. Thanks to all who made this possible. 🌲 cc @downtownboston.bsky.social

DID YOU KNOW District Hall sits on land planned and zoned as public park space (Seaport Common, Block F).

Shuttered for two years, DH was built as temporary, on two 5-year leases to 2023, and one extension to 2033.

Milking profits is more lucrative than completing Seaport Common, so why bother?

BRING $$$$ OR GTFO

Master Developer of Seaport Square hasn’t completed Seaport Common, a public park under construction for 12 years. District Hall, closed. Harbor Way, half-baked.

But on a lot already permitted for a future tower, we’ll soon have “igloos” for rent and pickleball courts ($100/hr).

The issue here isn’t balanced reporting. It’s that the Herald uses caricatures women and people of color in photographs, nearly always dignifying white men in similar positions of responsibility. I’m not aware of any other local media source that does this with such frequency.
November 24, 2025 at 6:06 PM
As is the example in the Herald, not the exception, white men in positions of responsibility are nearly always presented flatteringly in photos.

In this example, the Herald created an inset, choosing a photo of Mayor Wu that met a lower standard than the photo of Josh Kraft. Just politics? No.

A scan of all daily Herald covers to date this year (2025) supports my assertion:

In its choices of photos, the Herald has a clear predilection for dignifying white males in positions of responsibility, while choosing photos that demean women and people of color.

I’m certain that a thesis could be written on the Herald’s use of unflattering photographs of women and people of color in positions of responsibility, relative to white men holding comparable seats of government and private sector power.

These choices parallel the biases of the Herald’s base.

Globe comment regarding an uptick in shoplifting, as the Trump/MAGA/GOP regime drives people already living on the edge deeper into despair, some into homelessness.

Councilor Louijeune was asking all the right questions.

My view: There is a deep sickness in our culture.

"Clear head-to-toe sightlines from every seat."

Remember in years ahead, that's what you were told.

We just lost unobstructed views of the Fort Point Channel from every seat, thanks to a 4' guardrail necessitated by an elevated stage. And we lost 3 tiers of grassy ledges to sit and lay down on.

Harborwalk, not required to be elevated, will be lost to sea level rise, with no inland alternative.

Developer/BPDA jettisoned a 13.5ksf cultural space permitted for GE in the new building, while cutting a secret deal at 5 Necco with a local nonprofit (they later walked).

Anyone familiar w circus history knows of “hucksters” and “rubes.”

BPDA planners thought they were so smart, communicating privately with a group of Fort Point hucksters for well over a year. BPDA treated the public as rubes. Outcome? The hucksters took BPDA for a ride. EPIC FAIL

Don’t be a rube.

Screencap of clawbacks negotiated with Amazon, recipient of a $20 million rent subsidy that Charlie Baker falsely claimed to the public was for Seaport transit improvements.

Meanwhile, Walsh’s BPDA quietly relieved Amazon’s landlord of $20 million in pre-existing transit improvement obligations.

Edible flowers continue to be a wonder at Haymarket. These orchids are gorgeous and a deal this afternoon at two boxes for $1.00.

One of the most striking views of the new tower at South Station is from this alley.

It was surprising today to find multiple visitors and tourists taking photos upon discovering this view.
