I'll be at #Dragonmeet this weekend, you shall know me by my vascularity, my biretta, cloak, cane, (my pet attack-falcon, should security allow it) and generally unpleasant, thuggish attitude.

Friend of the #TorontOSR, Jonathan Benn, writes about his approach to creating dungeons. Nice solid advice for people new to creating your own adventures.

How to Write a Module: An Incoherent Play-by-Play
A few months ago I decided to write a module live on Bluesky, from woe to go, to show my process and why I keep insisting it’s not hard. A few people asked me to immortalise it here, so I’m reprodu…

According to (incomplete) data they've linked 4900 blog posts and counting over the years. Almost 5x the next highest number!

Some new (?) tech to track persistent states via random tables with memory. Like Ladder Tables, but simpler in execution.

Behold, the Stepladder Table!
Stepladder Tables
I am not certain that I am the first to have this idea. In fact, I most certainly am not; there's nothing new under the sun (especially in R...

Rewatching Magadheera made me again want an #rpg bbeg set a challenge so difficult that, as they watch the PCs struggle and succeed, the villain is so moved they're converted to a staunch ally and friend. I make it sound less than it is, watch the film!

Here's my #Frazetta and #OD&D inspired caveman #dungeon lair for #osr games. Easy to insert into a campaign but leans into the pulpy, caveman exploitation genre. foreignplanets.blogspot.com/2025/02/cave...

Do you want to have animal people without choosing between satanic beastmen and furries? Perhaps consider these unsettling human-animal hybrid from 1827 as an alternative.

If you're not fishing deep in the Lynchian noosphere for game mechanic ideas, will you ever make it as a rpg designer?
Pointcrawls and Overloaded Encounter Dice are rather recent innovations in #RPG 'technology'. Imagine, there are great mechanics yet undreamed off.
What a lovely thought.

If HP really is a character's ability to defend themselves you should be really leaning into that. Being very sad should lower your HP, some really scary thing that triggers your flight/freeze response should too, you should lose HP for a poor night's sleep. Defending a child should raise your HP.

I wrote about the prevalence of monster poaching, egg-snatching, and giant beaver slavery in AD&D, why it's even more Evil than it sounds, & why that has kind of fun gameplay implications, plus some musings about how much you might be able to sell a mind flayer brain for.
