The government of Israel was not marching in the ceremony. This hatred was directed at the existence of Israel and Jews.
What else is new in Europe.

Can... Can we not? Feels real shitty to see this shit taking off.

At some point we're going to have to put our fucking foot down about this "what are we, a bunch of J- I MEAN ISRAELIS?" shit when Americans see American evils enacted Americanly.

Somewhat confusingly, the Toronto Star says the 88cm of snow that's fallen so far January is more than the 110 cm that fell in the January 1999 storms.

Either way, it's a lot and the month isn't over yet.

What is making me lose it over this story: yes Breads is doing well in NYC... and part of why that is has to do with Jewish customers wanting it to succeed, for Jewish-solidarity-type reasons.
I recently saw that Breads Bakery workers are unionizing and demanding that the Israeli owners to stop supporting genocide in Palestine and I was willing to assume everything was on the up and up until I learned that “support for genocide” apparently means “catering Jewish food festivals.”

You might have missed some of these.

I noticed every, single one of them (and I wasn't in Canada over the holidays).

Neil Diamond rose to fame at a time when Jewish identity was visible in culture, but a new film loosely inspired by a real-life Diamond tribute act omits his heritage. The writer Mireille Silcoff calls it a pattern: "The stories are about us, but we're not in them." nyti.ms/4sA86kz

Whether it's the lyrics, the animation or actually getting Darlene Love to sing, this testimony to Robert Smigel's genius never fails to delight.

Let the word go forth from Toronto, where "Diversity is our strength," that as shabbat began, on the 6th night of Chanukah in 2025, there were "no (known) threats to Toronto's Jewish commnity!"

What a heartbreaking state of affairs, folks, that this requires saying.

Well, this seems pretty scary but then I've been assured Canadian Jews are actually completely safe so little attempted kidnapping around the Greater Toronto Area is perhaps not worth getting too fussed over?

It's been ages since I bought anything on Ebay but I could no longer resist the call of this vintage (1974) CN Tower whiskey bottle, which is basically a work of art.

Wondering if I could decant into it or should leave it as is...

Are things picking up or slowing down? Hard to keep track over here.
A 35-year-old man was stabbed on Tuesday near the Chabad Lubavitch World Headquarters in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, in what the police are investigating as a possible hate crime.

Also worth flashing back to Episode 3 of What is Happening Here? where Dave Meslin asserts all the vandalism, school shootings, bomb threats and arrests of terrorists, all demonstrative of a clear spike, only prove how SAFE Canadian Jews are.
I'm not so sure.

For 2 years, when Canadian Jews have asserted rising antisemitism is a problem, this would-be federal party leader has repeatedly asserted how safe he feels and laughingly mocked us as "crybullies. "

Now he's worried about consequences and courage.

Just an embarrassing lack of self-awareness.
