When I started work on Hadostruct, I knew it was going involve a lot of water. The first month was nearly all researching water shaders and volumetrics.

I'm really happy with where it's at now! Light changes color as it passes through liquids, which has some really cool effects.

comorbid with this condition: thinking constantly that you have "failed" and "keep failing" at things that don't even have fail states. which is most things. you can never "fail" at learning to draw or getting a job. you just aren't drawing well yet. you just don't have a job yet.

mesh instancing on the rendering server made the whole regeneration process almost instantaneous. each segment is now a separate cullable mesh - or, if the segments are small enough to fit inside the camera frustum, they can be combined into a single mesh. #gamedev #godot #solodev

ImporterMesh in godot is not being talked enough. It has a docs page, but not a single example of usage like other classes. It's in every way superior in creation of procedural meshes that don't need to be modified at runtime and also need to have some LOD/shadows. Perfect for wires/road chunks.

our dungeon crawler gridder game THREE VERSES always had a fixed head-on camera, but the game is too beautiful to restrict to one angle.
so now there's camera tilt allowing you to look observe and explore way more of the environment

I've been running an indie games studio for 15 years now, and it felt like a good time to boil down what I've learned into 4 pieces of advice:

I hope it's of use, not least because goddamn I forgot how long blog posts take to write.
