Jangly guitars. Schmaltzy sci-fi. Adequate jokes.
The more I think about it, the more I’m ready to say FRANKENSTEIN sits just below HELLBOY II on my GDT ranking.

Holy shit, the pre-order Eagle has landed. Only care because the kid set and kept reading goals all last summer for this. I will probably be allowed to touch the #Switch2 for setup, and then the kid will go...

On the subject of cinematography, everyone involved in this shot deserves an Oscar.

Calling it a night. The kid's restless to hang out, I'm out of gas, and boy, oh boy, do I not care for Michael Bay movies. Might pop back on for the after show. As always, thanks to @patrickbromley.bsky.social and @erikabromley.bsky.social for some much needed light in the darkness. #FThisMovieFest

Even if we all knew Sinise did it, this feels like the moment it should've been revealed. #FThisMovieFest

I've never been to Atlantic City. Is it truly the most depressing place on Earth? #FThisMovieFest

I'd say SNAKE EYES has the most obvious and deflating villain reveal out there, but BLOOD WORK beat it a few years later. #FThisMovieFest

The coolest part of this movie is crooked characters realizing they're not *that* crooked. The moral grayness of Cage's character feels as rare now as it did in 1998. #FThisMovieFest

Cage and Sinise are two real interesting flavors to have in a stew together. #FThisMovieFest

I'm not sure Cage's character is living *the* life, but he's certainly living *a* life. #FThisMovieFest

Real curious to revisit SNAKE EYES, which I remember as a "good but not great" thriller that inexplicably got one-starred by most critics. One of the first times I recall critics seeming to be out for blood. #FThisMovieFest

PSYCHO 98 is an interesting experiment. Experiments are good. Experiments keep things moving forward, even if some lead to nothing. At the end of the day, you could watch this or the original.

Watch the original.

The problem with Vince Vaughn's performance is looking for the creepiness instead of the sweetness in Norman Bates. The creepiness is there. It's no big discovery to find. #FThisMovieFest

The nice thing about multiple personalities is you only need one megaphone when having a staged conversation you want someone to hear 300 feet away. #FThisMovieFest

Seeing a USA Today stand in the car lot is a pretty shocking reminder how long ago 1998 is these days. #FThisMovieFest

I' ll do my best to be nice to our host,
@patrickbromley.bsky.social, but I'm absolutely flummoxed by this movie. Not because it's a line-for-line, shot-for-shot remake of a classic, but because it's 95% that, with the other 5% being laughable additions to secure an R-rating. #FThisMovieFest

Every time I watch the funeral home scene now, I think of my dad, who could've afforded any ceremony or "receptacle" you could want, but declined everything he could in advance 'cause the whole thing's a racket. #FThisMovieFest

The UZI was a big laugh. This is one of the hardest laughs I've ever had. #FThisMovieFest

I embarrassed myself in front of others with how hard I laughed the first time seeing John Goodman jump out of the car and the UZI going off. #FThisMovieFest

The Coens following up LEBOWSKI with O BROTHER is a comedy achievement not seen since Mel Brooks did BLAZING SADDLES and YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN in the same year. #FThisMovieFest

One of my recent obsessions is going all in on classic detective fiction, along with endless rewatches of MALTESE FALCON, CHINATOWN, etc. Love how this movie plays with the tropes and how it doesn't matter what narrative balls are in the air as long as they're in the air. #FThisMovieFest
The last time I watched this movie it was as a double feature with THE LONG GOODBYE and I could not give a higher recommendation. They play together so well it’s like they were made for each other #fthismoviefest
