We've officially passed my minimum threshold for worrying about numbers, so I'm no longer concerned that it'll be half empty if a few people drop out!

Instead I'm worried that there won't be enough cakes, because I only have a finite number of toppers. I'll make some plain ones as well I suppose.
The mortifying ordeal of trying to get people to RSVP to your book launch is hitting hard today 😅 I know a lot of people leave it to the last minute to confirm, but I do actually need to know how many cakes and books we need!

New level of the AI marketing spam emails: my (non-author) friends are now receiving them about my books?? Despite their names and email addresses being entirely unlike mine? Utterly mystifying.

My former medieval French lecturer is doing the Q&A with me at my launch, so I gave her the book to read early. I've been SO nervous to know what she thinks -- but she loved it. I'm so relieved. Waiting to hear what colleagues and fellow medievalists would think of it has been very stressful!

Somebody I co-wrote a blog with in 2013 and have basically not spoken to since accidentally added part of their schedule to the shared calendar that somehow still syncs with my old email address so. uh. Hope they're having a good time in Barcelona this week.

Discovered this evening that there are three unopened bags of flour in my cupboard. One of them was dated 2020. Do you KNOW how many times I've moved house since 2020? There is absolutely no way that flour came with me through all of those moves. WHERE did it come from

205. The Wolf and His King by Finn Longman. Fantasy. Loved this just as much as I expected to! Lycanthropy as metaphor for chronic pain/disability was so powerful and meant a lot to me; the sheer writing CRAFT on display here is so freaking impressive. (2nd person! 3rd person! Verse!) Instant fave!

Nothing tests my informal resolution to be less of a pedant on the internet than when I post 18th century manuscript initials on Tumblr and it gets tagged as "medieval marginalia". It's eighteenth century and it's in the main body of the text, it's neither of those things :(

I am on a book hunt for

well written sex scenes between two men
written by a man

but I am coming up with the same 5 books I've already read, and tomb dust. how is this possible. (and no, I don't need a romance, I need devastating smut)

You ever reread the 3.5 chapters you wrote of a novel back in 2021 and get consumed by the desire to write the rest of it, even though you have absolutely no time or brainpower to spare at present?

Apparently pre-orders of The Wolf and His King have started arriving! So if you pre-order now, you might just... get it straight away?
