Ever see something go by on the For You feed and accidentally refresh it or want to go back and find something you lost? @spacecowboy17.bsky.social already thought of that and set this one up. Been a life saver on finding posts again

It feels weird to learn that a musician I listened to in 2025 and kinda enjoyed was majority AI generated. Idk, it feels like I was cheated, or just am a moron and should have known.

(obligatory note: AI is a nuanced topic and this 100 character take is not my entire opinion.)

Whenever I complain about Github being bad, I always have to remember that it could certainly be worse.

Hello atmosphere ! Over the last few weeks, a bunch of us have been collaborating on a new set of lexicons for publishing, indexing, and building out social features across long-form reading and writing apps ! 🧵1/7
Standard.site - One schema. Every platform.
Standard.site provides shared lexicons for long-form publishing on AT Protocol. Making content easier to discover, index, and move across the ATmosphere.

Very good read.

I’ve been recently thinking about how per-user A/B testing on feeds could be valuable for researchers. Seems very doable right now. Maybe people are already doing this idk.

The reduced leverage that individual apps can have on their users is important. Companies don’t act in the best interest of their users if they don’t fear repercussions. If anyone can spin up a competitor, the chances of users sticking around after a hostile change is much lower.
Time for my big year end blogpost about the Atmosphere.

From the personal computing perspective, the cloud has been a disaster — but we shouldn't run away from it.

We can solve a lot of problems by connecting our clouds, turning it into atmospheric computing.
Atmospheric Computing
Cloud computing has been extremely successful, but it lost the values that drove personal computing. We can solve this by evolving forward.

After helping recover/restore 3 accounts this week, it's so crazy to me you can just back up your social identity and restore it no matter what. That's just so cool and really sets atproto apart from anything else.

hny to fellow east coast friends

~5 hours of arcaea and some miku on @stream.place this evening. pretty neat platform. basically just worked, even with my rats nest of a setup.

I just setup Piper in the last week or so and am still working on backfilling my Spotify data from this year, so not 100% accurate. Very cool that this exists and the data is all open for anyone to play with though.

The similar listeners part of this is a fun and cool benefit of atproto.

I swear I find a new bug in GNOME every day. I really should just switch to KDE Plasma at this point, but idk, probably a grass is greener sort of deal.

After a somewhat aggravating experience, I managed to wrangle Rust OTEL and the Grafana-stack together to get centralized logging and metrics.

Grafana is such a better experience than Cloudwatch, at least so far. Getting the whole stack setup is just agonizing unfortunately.

Props to anyone who can get claude to build a complex and functional web app. I can get simple things working, but not beyond that. My frontend experience is so bad that I think this is just a skill issue on my part though.

I should stick to infra/backend stuff, but pretty UIs are too enticing.

The new Arcaea partner is named VIIM.

I don't think I need to explain why I enjoy this lol

I have a lot of respect for the Knives Out movies just as an exercise in people making solid B+ level entertainment where everyone seems to be enjoying the experience without it needing it to win Oscar’s or make 3 billion dollars. It’s like going to a good steakhouse.

Working with ATProto is cool because it gives you access to a high volume and low latency problem space that lets you practice designing for web scale apps.

I deal with a lot of data at work, but not in this shape, so it's definitely a nice opportunity.

I don’t really care if people use LLMs for development (they can work really well in the right hands), but please never push an LLM generated doc/readme file. Most of it is excessive emojis and the rest is descriptions with no substance behind them.

Spend the 15 minutes to write it yourself, please

How is this song 3.5 years old already? sasakure.UK never misses, I swear. Still can't believe how pretty the animations are in this as well.

I have no idea how some people manage to post 50+ times a day and keep that up for days/weeks. I don’t think I even have 50 interesting and postable thoughts per day.

Must resist the urge to get a framework desktop now that they're in stock.

It's only like $500 more than the price of 2x64GB DDR5 DIMMs. What a steal.

I should really try CachyOS on my F13 sometime. A performance focused server distro sounds neat. As long as it’s stable though.

Christmas gift to myself: Added a DID allow list to Piper. Kinda felt weird that anyone could log in to it since it's a public instance. Honestly pretty easy to add. Learned a bit of Go along the way too.
