Trump and his cronies have the BBC in their sights. Leaders can’t stay silent while one of our great institutions is attacked.
We must defend its independence, end political appointments, and remove Robbie Gibb from the Board.

Trump sues the BBC. It's an extortion racket. Anyone sued by a vindictive president, with the whole DOJ doing his bidding, faces a rigged game. Nobody has "weaponized" our courts more than Trump has, with his thousands of lawsuits over his nasty lifetime.

Weak and donor beholden types usually aren’t too courageous
All the suffering was for nothing and will only cause more suffering because people like @kaine.senate.gov can’t tough it out

This is the immoral heart of people like @shaheen.senate.gov @senangusking.bsky.social @fetterman.senate.gov @kaine.senate.gov and all the rest.
Senators on the brink of retirement who lived full, wealthy lives and never feared the loss of their own healthcare voting for their constituents to die from their inability to afford the same is treasonous

Please don’t think this beltway game of having retiring Dem senators vote yes while everyone else votes no is going to shield leadership from the end result. We see what is happening and can’t be fooled by those games.

Fuck @kaine.senate.gov too. What a donor-beholden loser. That’s the only reason he broke his knees for that vote last night. Just trash

Exactly - @senangusking.bsky.social and @shaheen.senate.gov are NOT doing this for their regular working class constituents. They are doing it for THE DONORS because that’s who OWNS them
The Dems who are caving are doing so not because their base wants them to, not because the voters want them to, and not because SNAP recipients want them to. They are caving because their DONORS want them to. And that’s really all that ever matters to the establishment.

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.
The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.
People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.
And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

Tonight’s Senate vote on the federal government shutdown should have been a time for strength.
Instead we saw capitulation and a betrayal of working Americans.
The American people need more from their leaders.

@shaheen.senate.gov could wait to break those knees for Trump. I can’t believe a seasoned politician is stupid enough to negotiate with MAGA cult politicians “in good faith”. Are she and that other idiot from Maine seriously nothing more than morons who havent paid attention the last ten years??

Sanders: That is a totally meaningless gesture. You can get 100 votes here and it won't mean anything because the House is not going to take it up.

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

NEW: The Trump admin told states it must immediately "undo" the work to provide full food stamp benefits, or face penalties. The feds sent this in a late-night memo, only adding to the chaos and confusion around SNAP. www.nytimes.com/2025/11/09/b...
