August starts tomorrow and the evenings are getting noticeably darker here in Sweden. Tonight the sun sets already at 9:25 pm. Sweden is on the same latitudes as Alaska. While the climate is milder, the ebb and flow of the light impacted preindustrial Sweden more than anything. #genealogy

How light is Sweden in June? ☀️
Light enough that when I wake up at 3 am I have to check the clock — because it looks like daytime.
Sleeping without curtains? Results: jittery 24/7. Like having way too much coffee. ☕️

"'Those types' on the America liners" by sociologist Arne Nilsson, fresh from the library. 50% of staff on ships from Gothenburg to US were male homosexuals. The direct lines between Sweden and America started *after* the emigration wave, but I'm still intrigued by this insight into the travels.

Planning the dessert section of Christmas dinner. 🍨 I want to serve fudge, truffles, Turkish delight (?), cookies, and pastry. Flavors to cross off are chocolate, mint, orange, saffron, and ginger. Time to decide how to combine them! 🎄
