AU where capitalists are furiously trying to develop and distribute recreational drugs to stop the dopamine overload that makes people lose interest in the instant gratification of AI gen.

I didn't get it. I looked at who posted it. I looked again harder. I cringed.

I'm convinced AI is our generation's radium - a discovery with genuinely useful applications in specific, controlled circumstances that we stupidly put in everything from kid's toys to toothpaste until we realised the harm far too late where future generations will ask if we were out of our minds.

When I was first starting out at my job debugging set-top boxes I got handed a bug that required watching PPV movies, and this was one of the movies I ended up watching the majority of while testing.
Love this movie and have a personally indulgent connection-- in college was in a class that watched unreleased/about to release movies in a 300+ theater. this movie had no distribution, they played/tested it on us with rows of execs in back, we reacted so positively it got distribution shortly after

Turns out running a justice system based on rule of law is hard when your secret police don't obey court orders and keep arresting people on charges that won't stick.
The attorney working for DOJ who asked to be held in contempt so she could get some sleep and said "this job sucks" was assigned **88** federal cases in less than a month, per a court docket search.

Why bother with firearms training when there's no consequences for shooing people?
Three rules in FBI firearm training:

1. Always point your weapon downrange
2. Do not point your weapon at anything you do not intend to shoot
3. Don’t put your finger on the trigger unless you intend to shoot

Guns are not for threatening compliance for unarmed people doing things you don’t like
happening this morning in Minneapolis -- ICE agents drawing guns on observers. I reiterate again that it is only a matter of time before DHS kills more innocent people in Minnesota. Congress needs to shut this shit down right now.

My criteria for deciding whether gen AI is acceptable for something is "If gen AI didn't exist would the alternative be either A. it doesn't get made and nobody cares or B. I do it myself really really badly and nobody cares?" If the answer is yes, gen AI is probably fine.
the discourse on what jobs are acceptable to replace with generative AI reveals a lot about what we think of other people's jobs

I always wondered why badgers in the Redwall series were one of the "good" creatures. I guess the ones in Europe are less aggressive?

Columbo. So yes, I'll be saved, but it will be the single worse episode in the entire show.
You’ve been kidnapped. The characters from the last TV show you watched are trying to rescue you. Who’s coming to save you?

Well, my TV show choice can’t be any more mainstream. But, yes, I’m being rescued.

Pretty sad about getting banned from twitter. I really liked my locked zone circle of friends. It was like having a private booth in the Colosseum where you could watch the action unfold around you without being eavesdropped on or interrupted.

Had a funny moment in FBC: Firebreak.
* Extracting
* Dude A pulls lever right before doors close
* Dude B and me give dirty looks
* He puts it back
* He does it again
* Dirty looks intensify
* He does it a third time
* Dude B and me open fire simultaneously and down him
* We pull lever and extract

Went through almost all my old photos today looking for something. Found one of my favorite t-shirt back in the day that only got better the more I wore it out.

One of the evergreen Bloom County cartoons that I can never find uploaded online is the one where they propose a SDI project to build a missile shield by sewing trillions of dollar bills into a giant sheet and sending them into orbit.
How much does Trump’s Golden Dome missile shield actually cost?

-Trump (wrong): $175B
-Media (wrong): $542B
-Me (correct):
