Snapshot of my year in movies at the end of 2025. My top ten is kind of all over the place, and I’m sure there will be some additions as I catch up on the year’s films.

I wasn’t expecting Wake Up Dead Man to get a cinematography nod, but still mildly disappointed that it’s not even shortlisted.
(My vote is still for Sinners, but Steve Yedlin’s work is stunning and definitely deserves recognition.)

I wasn’t expecting Wake Up Dead Man to get a cinematography nod, but still mildly disappointed that it’s not even shortlisted.

I can hear my inner therapist pushing me to appreciate what I have. So “it’s draining when three of my partners need emotional support at the same time” becomes “there are three amazing women who love me and trust me to be there for them,” which is a good problem to have, all things considered.

I want to be faux-outraged that the east wing demolition destroyed the movie theater, but the actual outrage that has been constant all year is so overpowering that it just feels pointless.
