The problem with saying 140K = poverty is that 140K puts you in the top 0.5% globally and around the top 3% nationally. This lifestyle which is definitely not ordinary.

This is fine. We don't need to manufacture RAM. We're in the 21st century. Just download more if you need it.

Ignorance isn't going to help residents. Even if the buyers don't know the risks, the insurers are still going to know.
Lol, Zillow tried to rate the climate risks facing individual properties. The real estate industry *hated* it, precisely because it worked -- it made selling risky properties more difficult. So they rebelled & Zillow caved.

Don't look up!

They're calling this guy who's enamored with small businesses a communist?
Soon small businesses won’t have to wait for Small Business Saturday to get attention from their Mayor.

Finland uses “Russia-gauge” rails. They are going to move to European compatible rail gauge for their own resilience.

This is what we should be thinking about for moving to open social away from American platforms: it should come with significant spending commitments & is absolutely necessary.

Antisemitism exists and is bad, but it seems like every interviewer gets into this topic with Mamdani. I want more interviews about his plans to add more bus lanes and housing.
WELKER: What is your message to Jewish New Yorkers who feel you won't be tough enough in your response to antisemitism?

MAMDANI: That I am looking forward to being the next mayor and fulfilling the commitment I've made to Jewish New Yorkers to not only protect them but to celebrate and cherish them

It's good that Trump was charmed by Mamdani and will be less eager to cause much harm to the city but Trump isn't going to be awakened.

I'm watching Inheriting the Wind tonight and it's a good movie. It's hard to imagine evolution being such a legally controversial issue.

Is it possible to move into economic populism without needing to fight a culture war too?
Honestly grateful to Douthat for this accessible distillation of this point of view. Going to be a great teaching tool that generates lots of conversation.
