An observation that I'm calling the "ALLY APPEAL AXIS": the American diplomat/politician(s) most frequently brandishing polemical appeals- based on American defense of Europe during WW2- are also most likely to lean strongest toward actual Fascism...

'Remarkable and unprecedented': The Trump administration's grand jury losses
The word “unprecedented” is getting a workout after a grand jury in Washington on Feb. 10, 2026, rebuffed an attempt by federal prosecutors to get an indictment against perceived enemies of President ...

My dad used to buy us coins from the US Mint as we were growing up. Here’s the back side of a 1986 dollar coin commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty. I always feel both hopeful and grateful when I read these words.

40 years feels so long ago now.

Do you know what the proven primary way to stop deaths due to substances and mental health issues is? It’s not bombing boats ands countries who are bringing drugs into our country. It’s funding mental health and addiction services. Cutting $2 billion is murder. Plain and simple.

I was admittedly shocked by both the imperial and racial notes in the recently released National Security Strategy. Since it’s the administration’s roadmap for defense policy and priorities, we’d benefit from your historical analysis

Venezuela has oil.

Greenland has rare Earth minerals.

Luckily Iceland has only volcanoes, glaciers, and very average cricketers.

I looked up what the president was doing the day I saw this message on the CDC’s webs (while looking up information about a disease);
he was playing golf.

Ironically, I was reading a section on misplacing items while distracted. When I got home from the grocery store, it took me another 5-10 minutes to find the book (I brought for a wait at the pharmacy)…which was in one of the grocery bags…still in the car.

Two kinds of people don’t get why we study religion: people who think religion is bad and not studying it will make it go away and people who think religion is good—but just their own—so keep your critical hands off it. Both are wrong about what religious studies is. (See first comments on op.)

Instead, we’re getting a vulgar new gold ballroom, which none of us will ever see.
