Thanks for all the follows, there are now even more of you than on the old app <3

Time for a quick introduction: My skeets are mostly about travel and other impressions with a focus on mobility and urban planning issues. Professionally …
Common euro w: Just spent the last three hours walking around Nouméa (pop 95k) and didn't see a single beg button

Nicely walkable, but the transit is terrible – the comprehensive network around the agglomération was scrapped during the 2024 riots, and has since only partially come back

My most gadgetbahn-adjacent take remains that I actually like APS? (There isn't really a good reason to use it here though)

I'm such a sucker for great tree canopies, and this genuinely feels like the average street in Canberra <3

Genuinely love the messaging that implicitly ties new housing to further improved public amenities for everyone

Bikeshare systems that block tourists is a bigger problem than just Barcelona. I’ve encountered this is Madrid and Zurich as well.

There are good reasons to open a system to both locals and visitors, writes @davidzipper.bsky.social.
Bikeshare Shouldn’t Kick Tourists to the Curb
Barcelona’s bikeshare program excludes non-Spanish visitors. Other cities charge tourists much higher fees to rent two-wheelers. Which policy makes more sense?

Australia simply loves to "protect" active mobility

- Extremely long waits for pedestrians at traffic lights

- Bike helmet laws decreasing life expectancy by effecting hardly anyone cycles and making bikeshare impossible

- Further ""bike safety"" legislation (helmet fines start at 230€ in NSW)

Traffic lights here (meaning Australia in general) are genuinely the worst from a pedestrian POV

- No automatic ped green with through traffic even on this shopping street w wide sidewalks etc
- Beg buttons all the way, which take forever to effectuate a signal change, even at 04:30 in the morning

(Love it here so much but) peak-only bike lanes 😭

What are they doing with those lane – barely a meter wide – outside of peak hours?

It remains virtually impossible to spot any train here that isn't getting cleaned in some form by multiple employees at that very moment

The areas getting cleaned don't seem to be very dirty to begin with

Imagine running a half-hourly train service (admittedly at 350 km/h) that runs at a huge operational loss due to low demand – and keeping it reserved seating only, with ticket sales closing 15 mins ahead of every departure

Hello from Jabodebek 'light rail'!

It's fully automated (GoA4) 🥰

0PTO? Almost! ☺️

Every train here seems to have

- A guy standing around in the cab
- Two guys wiping various surfaces
- At least one security guy

Off-peak headways: 20 mins

Someone put *a lot* of effort into unified multilingual wayfinding across BRT, LRT, MRT and even commuter rail in the Jakarta region – and it turned out really good!

That being said, it's still borderline impossible for the average tourist to use transit here given how inconvenient fare payment is
