Fear, arrests and know-your-rights: How one school district is grappling with ICE coming to town
NEW HAVEN, Conn. — “They took her, they took her, they took her.” Those were some of the words Assistant Principal Cora Muñoz could discern while on the phone with the guardian of one of her students. As the caller sobbed and struggled to speak, Muñoz realized that immigration enforcement agents had detained a kid from Wilbur Cross, the high school she helps lead. Again. There was a reason why Muñoz was a go-to contact for the student and her guardian: She — and New Haven public schools more broadly — have worked hard to earn the trust of immigrant families in their diverse district, even as the second Trump administration has made it easier for immigration officers to enter schools and launched a mass deportation campaign.

National media should really be covering the fact thay every major school, museum, and arts institution in the Twin Cities, and hundreds of local businesses are closed tomorrow to protest federal occupation.

Nothing like this at this scale has happened anywhere in America anytime in living memory.

I know I don't have a ton of media followers, but I'll put this out there anyway: if you need someone to comment/offer context on the removal of the slavery exhibit at the President's House site in Philly, get in touch. I just finished an entire book on Americans' fight over Washington and slavery.

Schiff's "Trump Agenda Response Plan":

1. Skeet about it
2. ?????
3. Get judged by history for not standing up to lawlessness
Kristi Noem is telling ICE agents they can forcibly enter your home without a judicial warrant.

That is unconstitutional.

History will judge us if we do not stand up to the lawlessness and cruelty of this administration.

We need to document how this ownership change shifts the content. Would love to see scientists studying and reporting on this as it happens, as well as everyday people documenting the changes in their feeds with TikTok diaries or something similar. I’ll assume we won’t have much if any API access.

Nice try, MAGA, but the truth is in 40 million people's DNA, in hundreds of slave testimonials, eyewitness accounts, and the Federal Writers' Project.

Trump wouldn't even have a White House to desecrate if it wasn't for enslaved laborers.

Let's be real, the man is obviously experiencing dementia AND this Greenland stuff is also a prime example of the One Trick No One Wants You To Know scam artistry that has always been Trump's stock and trade.

He's more stubborn and rigid in it now but it's just an exaggerated form of his usual
He’s actually completely insane and his insanity is being enabled by Miller

Pure barbarism.
ICE detained a 5-year-old Minnesota boy coming home from school + took him and his dad to Texas, school officials say. The family has an active asylum case + entered the US at a port of entry.

"They’re taking children. They're not violent criminals. They're little kids," the superintendent told me.

Here is a giant list with dozens and dozens of ways to donate and help people in Minnesota from personal GFM to mutual aid to grocery delivery groups.
I don't know of a specific place to help restaurants that will be closed on Saturday, but if you want to help the local industry, there are some options in the "crowdfunding" section of this website.

I support term limits and think this proposal is constitutional. But this SCOTUS won’t. And term limits also don’t stop the Roberts Court’s ongoing and immediate destruction of our democracy. Expanding the Court does, and has the bonus of making a term limit law more likely to survive SCOTUS review.
Our Supreme Court reform bill would limit justices to 18-year active terms. It follows the Constitution. Judges keep lifetime service and pay. Congress sets the court structure.

Here’s an explanation.

over the last couple of decades I think media and politicians' obsession with opinion polling has caused something a bit like the data rot LLMs get when they reprocess their own information, but on a societal scale
People are waving around 50/50 polling on abolish ICE and in the same poll Trump’s is like 30 points under water on affordability. It’s not at all crazy for professional politicians to think there’s a bigger advantage in talking about the latter!

'Why aren't they in the streets' is answered almost every day in my small town by people in the streets! Rather than asking 'why aren't they in the streets' it's worth asking 'why isn't your media showing them in the streets' and 'who is served by downplaying resistane in its myriad forms.'
The idea that there are no protests in the US and no one is standing up to Trump is proving incredibly hard to kill over here in Germany. It’s become dogma, utterly detached from empirical reality.

I wonder if the people who keep talking like that understand they’re perpetuating regime propaganda.

This is some wild shit but, will probably save the Fed. Because the Fed is the only independent agency the Republican Justices care about
Oh man, Kav quotes his confirmation hearing, says if they side with Trump here, "what goes around comes around" and the next Dem President will go ahead and fire the whole board.

Kav doesn't care about that for any other agency. But he clearly cares about the Fed's independence.
