I saw The Met's streamed production of the opera, "Andrea Chénier," at a movie theatre today. I liked it, teared up at the end. I realized that, unlike television or movies, opera is not plot driven. The essential part of an opera is emotion—how well the performers express the human condition.

What a beautiful way to describe a sunrise: "When rosy-fingered Dawn appeared newborn, they made their way towards the Greek encampment." From the Emily Wilson translation of "The Iliad."

For voice exercises, I asked ChatGPT to generate a list of five-syllable words that begin with the letter "m." I thought that would be easy. Some examples of what it came up with: microbiological, magnetohydrodynamic, and megalopolitanism.

I just attended a live performance of The Met's "La Bohème," my 1st opera, from the comfort of my local Cinemark theatre. I enjoyed *watching* an opera more than just listening to one. I'm seeing Austin Opera's production in May, and I'm considering attending a Met performance in person next season.

I recently bought this lawn chair because it's beautiful and iconic. It's only temporarily here in my office; I don't dare sit in it because the aluminum frame would scratch up the soft pine floor in a heartbeat. OTOH, Emma can do whatever she wants.

I saw the movie, "Eleanor the Great," last weekend. It was great. One scene was shot at the diner at the end of the block where I stayed in the UES. NYC is the setting for so many films that it's common to recognize locations, even ones that are not famous or iconic. bsky.app/profile/fahr...
Tighter cropping of a photo I just posted. Neither has good composition because the collective sight-line of the people in the photo leads the eye off the photo to the right, and there is nothing to bring it back. Usually, a good composition leads the eye around, within the image.

In Canada, the Indian Act prohibited powwows and other cultural expressions between 1876 and 1951. Indigenous communities kept their traditions alive in secret, and modern powwows are a powerful symbol of their survival and resistance.

Due to foot pain, I've been walking really slowly in public. It's freeing in that I don't have to match societal norms or the pace of people around me. I keep off to the side, so I don't impede anyone. It's almost like a walking meditation. Try it! Don't care what people think.

Yesterday, I bought a ticket to an Austin Symphony Orchestra performance tonight and put it on my calendar. Just now I noticed that a bought a ticket over a month ago to the same production but for tomorrow night. <sigh> Oh, well, this is an opportunity to compare performances.

I saw the movie, "Twinless," today. I enjoyed it. Within a few seconds of the first shot, I was thinking it kinda looks like a street in downtown Portland, Oregon. I lived there for 9 years, 25 years ago. Sure enough, Portland. I miss that city.
