New summoning rituals just dropped…
How to find me at PAX:

1. Come to my booth, 3958. I'll be there pretty much all vendor hours.

2. Challenge me to a NOVA skirmish or card game. Or summon me for a GILA or Dragon Slayers session.

As highlighted in #TuesdayNewsday, this column from the brain behind @exeunt.press is a great intro read for folks just jumping into game design, and maybe gets included in future syllabi from

Do we follow each other on here and want to meet up at PAXU?

No promises, but we can try! I made a Google Form to try to form order from chaos (i.e. clicking available times).

DM me for the link.

What can we learn from the board game adaptation of the 1981 dark fantasy film Dragonslayer?

Quite a bit, both from what it does well and how it might be adapted to a more modern design style: www.skeletoncodemachine.com/p/dragonslayer

Player elimination in an "easy-to-learn adventure for two to four players" that takes "two to three hours" to play is wild.

Not sure you'd find that in modern board games.

One does not simply make a Top 10 Board Games list.

Updating BG Stats, adding ratings for BGG, double checking what I played on BGA. Pondering how much "ease of getting it to the table" factors in to decisions. Adjusting for recency effects. Considering setup time and teach time.

One thing I've mentioned in recent classes is ending your game. There are countless ways to accomplish this, but it helps to have a figurative "clock" or "timer" built in that forces the end in a timely manner.

I wrote about it at SCM last year: www.skeletoncodemachine.com/p/the-final-...
