Check out my latest for the @crexuio.bsky.social blog. I look at how a politically maturing Irish far right is increasingly leveraging Irish republicanism through masculinity to build a home-grown ideology.

Another point I would add to this, the post Jan 6 regrouping that seemed to take place in the media, and with a seeming momentum pushing tech companies in the right direction, now seems like another world. One very far away, and it doesn't feel like its coming back anytime soon, sadly..
I often think about this. Could anything have been done differently during the years of the Biden presidency to change where we are now? Or was it inevitable?
What to say about Jan 6th? The country was faced with a critical choice after that day, and it chose poorly.

People who fancy quoting the Melian Dialogue ("the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must") ignore the fact that Thucydides was clearly portraying this as the kind of hubris that squandered Athens' primacy and paved the way for a devastating peer war that it ultimately lost.

every country in central and South America has their own very specific answer to the question “When has the United States ever engaged in imperialism”
KERNEN: Europeans are talking about it almost being like Vladimir Putin and Ukraine.

JEFF LANDRY: I disagree. When has the United States engaged in imperialism? Never. Europe has engaged in imperialism. The reason the Danish have Greenland is because of imperialism.

Meta removed a few Nazi posts — but left influencers with millions of followers free to push misogyny, racism, and white supremacist content. Instagram is still hosting creators who monetize hate. The platform isn’t moderating extremism — it’s amplifying it.
After GPAHE Reporting, Meta Removes Antisemitic Content But Leaves Misogyny and Anti-Black Racism Unchecked
GPAHE’s investigation forced Meta to remove some antisemitic and neo-Nazi content — but the platform continues to host rampant misogyny, anti-Black racism, and other extremist propaganda from major in...

It takes 9 years on average for democracies to get off the global lists of “backsliding democracies,” one way of the other (either they are restored, or they collapse into autocracy, dictatorship, etc). By my count we are halfway through that average…
Props to the scholars and researchers who identified January 6 for what it was. @milleridriss.bsky.social said this to me in the July 2nd 2021 episode of @onthemedia.bsky.social

today is the 5th anniversary of me being "outed" as the QAnon Shaman. by far the most hilarious thing that's happened to me in 20 years of Far Right watching.

if you don't know the story, Vice made a 9 minute documentary about me after this.

"we are the dominant predator force in the Western Hemisphere"

No lie there!
Ogles: "It's important that we have a stake in Greenland, that they are quite frankly a protectorate of the US. They've been in relationship with Denmark - that needs to end. We've spilled more blood protecting Greenland than the Danes... we are the dominant predator force in the Western Hemisphere"

I held on to mine until very recently, mainly out of hope someone else would buy it and turn it back to what it once used to be. I genuinely miss the platform we once had. An excellent algorithm for following niche news destroyed and muddled with low IQ nonsensical trash and AI slop. Sad.
People who consider themselves decent, progressive, or left leaning should not only be embarrassed to remain on X in any active capacity - they should be deeply ashamed. The line was crossed long ago.

What X is allowing Grok to do is unlawful or regulatory-illegal in multiple jurisdictions, creates clear DSA violations, and continues despite regulator scrutiny. The images do not need to be pornographic, non-consensual sexualised or intimate depictions are enough.
Elon Musk chatbot repeatedly making CSAM on demand should be one of the single biggest stories right now and it's effectively a collective shrug instead

A good point, are we about to see PMCs take over? Or more broadly, the increasing use of private entities in US foreign interventions?
Why are people assuming US troops and not Eric Prince employees will enforce US order in Venezuela?

This would surely require some form of boots-on-the-ground military operation to protect said delegation, considering Colectivas etc. are roaming around and remnants of Maduro's regime are still in charge. The one thing the Trump administration appeared to be dead set against... Interesting times

Reminds me of a similar incident in Ukraine back in 2018, a bizarre twist. I wonder how all the Active Clubs paying their tributes online felt about this news
🔴 BREAKING: The commander of the Russian Volunteer Corps, Denis Kapustin, survived a $500,000 Kremlin assassination plot after a month-long counter-op.

The money meant to kill him was redirected to support Ukraine’s fight.
