I will like all your cat pictures.
Just remember that you can't say "sycophancy" without saying "sicko fancy," and if you're into one, you probably do the other.

Ruth Buzzi was a one-woman Spike Jones and also His City Slickers.

Just ridiculously talented--and a talent in ridiculousness.

When she starts using a spreadsheet to keep track of all her music, will she change her name to Charli.xls?

Put enough false springs back-to-back, and you have--well, global climate change, is what you have

Critiques of LLMs that note its tendency to present answers that are confident and wrong really reveal the way AI designers think, not just how AI works, which isn't surprising, given that unsupported confidence is how techbros secure venture capital.

Arguments are built on evidence, but they're secured on counter-evidence. You're not done with it unless and until you've accounted for all of it.

It's becoming increasingly difficult to get my comp. students to understand this.

Literally had a conversation with a student this week on how important it was to her to have affirming books when she came out.

This is why we have to fight against LGBTQI+ book bans in libraries, folks. This stuff is real. The right book at the right time can save a life.

It's impossible to argue with this.
I really need cookies and cream ice cream… I’m going to have some later and lift my spirits +5 in determination and +10 in whimsy if you ask me

Now that the racism is out in the open, TurningPoint USA feels free to go batshit over Bad Bunny headlining the Superbowl Halftime Show.

It doesn't tell us anything we didn't already know about them, of course, but it is notable.

And, if JD Vance succeeds him, for at least another four years afterward, I reckon.
We can expect no honesty, no decency, and no humanity from this Presidential administration. It will be like this until the microsecond he leaves.

While it's true that dementia can make people less tactful, there's part of me that says the Orange Tyrant is doubling down on his crazy because he's tired of being president and bored and just wants all this to end.

Overheard on the couch, her side: "Look, I don't if seven demons is a lot or not, but I do know they wouldn't have a long commute to get to southern Illinois."

The US doesn't do history so much as a weird combination of nostalgia and hero worship.

Again, the GOP fears Trump's overt racism in case it draws attention to the deep and broad structural racism, misogyny, and xenophobia that pervade their policies and platform.

Taking down one post doesn't absolve them of the injustices in everything else they do.

The "survivor" vs. "victim" language is meaningful, and you can tell quite a bit about people's perspectives by which they choose to use and when and why.

Trump isn't really doing anything unprecedented; he's kicking over institutions already gutted by years of neocon and neoliberal rot. Their veterans are just mad because he's drawing attention to it and stoking well-deserved public ire.

I teach for a living, and even I wake up at night in a cold sweat wondering how in the fuck to explain Devo to the chilluns.
February 5, 2026 at 2:52 AM
Amen to this. It's not just that institutions and norms have been wrecked; it's that we need to put up strong guardrails against future Trumps.
If democrats retake the white house in 2029 a lot of people will be ready to declare victory, but there's decades worth of work that needs to be done to make America into a proper country(for the first time, this place has always been 🗑️)

"Woke" is just the impertinent notion that people other than cis/het/white guys like me do, in fact, exist. And always have.

Students use AI "just to study" the same way people smoke weed "just for the taste."

Annie Farmer is absolutely right. The DOJ is weaponizing the Epstein files. They're trying to make this process harder on the survivors than the perpetrators for one reason: they believe the "real" victim is Donald Trump. This is the RVO part of DARVO.

Epstein survivor committed to transparency despite redaction problems in files
NPR's Scott Detrow talks with Annie Farmer, one of Jeffrey Epstein's victims, about what may be in the final release of the Epstein files by the Department of Justice.

Ya'll getting it? Trump is such a bad businessman that the only way he can make money is through graft, and the only way he can get away with graft is, thanks to Trump v. USA, to remain president.

Overheard on the couch:

His side: "That's a lot of crosses on the wall. That's an excessive number of crosses."

Her side: "That's a Zillow number of crosses."

Sure, the DOJ wants to redact information to protect Epstein's "victims," but then, Trump believes he is the only victim, the eternal victim, the only one who matters.
