It's a once in a lifetime chance. They've spent, in most cases, dozens of years training for this, dedicating their lives to this moment, because the difference between gold and nothing may be a 1% difference.

There's nothing "extreme" about not wanting to lose a gold medal because you had a cold.

I hear from people who are surprised I'm still talking about ICE, they thought they'd withdrawn from MN.

No, they have not. In some respects they've escalated.

Some asked why MN is a target. Are there are there a lot more illegals or criminals here?

No, it's not about that. It's about a grudge.

Toyed with the idea of asking the yarn store if they might be able to get me a different color instead of the one that’s back ordered, but the supplier doesn’t tell them ahead of time what’s back ordered, so it could be the same thing with another color.

Went to the yarn store again today! My special order needles came in, but the yarn for my sweater is still on back order. I nabbed a skein of light teal yarn to go with the dark blue yarn I got last weekend to experiment with color work while I wait for my other yarn. Maybe a sweater will happen?

Went to the yarn store today! Was thrilled to see they had a display about the red Melt the Ice hat. The owner said they also closed for sales on Friday for the strike, but had a community gathering instead. She said the response has been more positive than she expected!

"My husband complains about the cold," the man said. "Can you teach me a spell to keep him warm?"

"I can teach you to bind hair into a net to catch heat," the wizard said, "using arcane counting and a pair of fine wands."

After a while, the man said "Isn't this knitting?"

"This, too, is magic."

Holy moly, I’m training so many people at work right now! 3 who’ve been there several months now, one who started a couple months ago, one who started last week, and now one more surprise hire who starts tomorrow. 😵‍💫 It’s okay, just hectic.

While I wait for the yarn store to get my sweater yarn order in, I’ve been drawing out the cable chart by hand on graph paper so it’s a more usable size for me. It’s time consuming (I color code everything) but I’m getting more familiar with the design before I try it.

Went to an aquarium supply store last night and was delighted to see the staff in N95 masks and all customers still required to wear masks also. I wish I saw more places still doing this. The “Covid surcharges” sign behind the till particularly got me 😂

Got the call I’ve been waiting for from the owner of the local yarn store to confirm I wanted them to special order some yarn and needles for me. 😄 In about 2 weeks I should have the yarn for my first sweater project! I’m excited!

While I wait to get my sweater yarn, I’ve started another pair of socks. I’m testing out a different cast on and different needle sizes, so I expect to start over a few times before settling on the right combination.

Finally visited the local yarn store for the first time yesterday! As I suspected, they didn’t have sweater-quantities in stock of most things, so I put in a request for a special order of enough the yarn I picked out.

This is it. "What do you think calling your electeds will do?"

Make them feel about me the same way everyone who's ever defaulted on student loans feels about their voicemail.
Ask not what your representative will do for you (nothing), ask how you can make your representative so miserable they quit their job
My attitude on this is that I'm not calling them because I think I can change their minds.

I'm calling them because it is unthinkable to let them do this without hearing how evil and awful they are.

My spite powers me. If I can get just 500 people a day to join me, we could fuck up their day.

Finished the second fingerless mitt/wrist warmer of the pair! I decided to mirror the cable pattern so it twisted the opposite direction on the other hand. I’m happy with them! First project I’ve done with cables (and a touch of lace), first mitts, and I learned a new stretchy bind off technique.

I did it and it took me about 10 minutes (including retrieving my ID to take photos of it).

“Then they shouldn’t have voted for this!”

Bitch, Asheville is a blue college town and the county has gone blue for decades. I am so sick of this “if I pretend disasters only happen to red areas, it means I’m safe because I’m properly on the left!” No. You’re not safe. That’s why we save everybody.

I’ve decided I’m ready to try making a sweater! A month ago I was planning a fairly simple one, but now that I know how easy cables can be, I’m less intimidated by this fancy pattern. I’m up for a challenge! Besides, I don’t want to get bored mid-sweater.

This is NGC 2264, also called the "Christmas Tree Cluster." It's a cluster of young stars about 2,500 light years away.

They were 'born' during the Pliocene Epoch (2-5 MYA), about the same time as early hominids like Ardipithecus or Homo habilis, so they're barely older than humanity.
