Want to know the political science behind why the LA Times’s AI generated balance-meter on op-eds sucks? Great piece by @joshuabenton.com of @niemanlab.org that draws on the classic Converse 1964 article about what goes with what.
There’s another reason the L.A. Times’ AI-generated opinion ratings are bad (this one doesn’t involve the Klan)
At a time of increasing polarization and rigid ideologies, the L.A. Times has decided it wants to make its opinion pieces less persuasive to readers by increasing the cost of changing your mind.

"That's 'Rid of Me', one of my favorite songs, by PJ Harvey," I told Lewis.

"But they shouldn't have started it there, because we will miss the delicious ending."

But we didn't. they let it play out at the end of the credits.

My GenX heart is full.

I had no idea but I'm definitely going to start doing that.
Fun fact: if you're buying from a creator on etsy, you can reduce their etsy selling fees from 6.5% to 2.5% by ordering via 'shopname.etsy.com' instead of 'etsy.com/shopname' or searching from the main site. It costs you the same but the creator makes more

A pattern for troubled times:
Row 1: put your phone down
Row 2: pick up your hobby supplies
Row 3: make something for at least an hour
Row 4: take a photo of your make
Row 5: share that photo to your timeline (with alt text)
Row 6: like others' makes.

Rep rows 1-6 until time for tea.

Keep a journal - a pen and paper one. Just one or two lines a day.

Reality is warping. You need to remember.
Keep calm. Conserve your energy. Now is not the time to panic. This will be a long, arduous road.

The future depends on us remembering our history.

Context matters, folks!
to recap:
— Trump was *for* the TikTok ban
— which the GOP Congress passed
— and the GOP Supreme Court upheld
— and even though Biden said he wouldn't enforce the ban, TikTok shut down anyway
— so that Trump could "save" it
— and the media fell for it
we really do live in the dumbest fucking country

Huzzah!
Bluesky's growing fast w/ particular crowds (incl marketers) but if you want to reach "the masses," Threads is ~14X bigger.

If your goal is to maximize reach, be on both.

Good news: unless you want to reach right-wing-politics crowd, you probably don't need to be on Twitter for long.
