Award-winning TV writer (Star Trek: Discovery) and wanna-be director. Making everything else up as I go.

Ken was game for any challenge we threw at him, and yet he was always a beacon of positivity despite the long hours. The cast and crew adored him. His love of the franchise and its fans was infectious. We’d hoped to have him in S4, but COVID had other plans.

He is dearly missed. RIP Ken.
On his birthday, remembering Ken Mitchell, who played Aurellio in season 3 of #StarTrekDiscovery, on which he'd already played 3 different Klingons: Kol, Kol-Sha, and Tenavik. He's voiced characters on #StarTrekLowerDecks, including a Tweerk captain, a Romulan guard & more

I've heard of multiple writing teams at co-producer level that were offered staff writer roles on shows.

I know of a team that refused, but I also know a team that took the offer. To be clear, this wasn't the same show, but two unique productions.
re: unprecedented times. Lower and mid-levels are further disadvantaged because they're competing for positions being taken by experienced upper levels who take the pay cut 'cuz they have mortgages to pay, too.

We’re crushed to hear the news that the great Udo Kier has passed at the age of 81. As iconic as he was prolific, Kier’s contributions to the genre span nearly 300 screen credits, from BLOOD FOR DRACULA to BACURAU and beyond. Our condolences go out to his friends, family and legions of fans.

If I’m understanding this correctly, X is owned by a white nationalist who pays poor people of color in developing countries to pretend to be working class white Americans to scare other white Americans into being afraid poor people of color from developing countries are going to ruin America?

Growing up, I found Siskel and Ebert's love of movies infectious. That you could mine such richness from film (when good) contributed to my growing appreciation and love of the medium.

Great work here from @mattsinger.bsky.social, though I'm now at risk of losing the day to watching all of this.
50 years ago this week, Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert made the first pilot for their TV show. In honor of this huge anniversary, I created my definitive “Best of Siskel & Ebert” article - 50 of their best reviews from across their entire career. 👍🏻👍🏻

A sobering look at the state of producing.

Glad that we're starting to talk about the scourge of producer credits being handed out to people who aren't actively working on a production. It's absurd and wrecking budgets.

One film has 93 credited producers which is 3 producers per credited actor!

I'm not going to link to the article because we don't need to give her or anyone platforming her any more direct attention, but I feel slightly obligated to thank Olivia Nuzzi for single handedly curing me of my imposter syndrome as a writer.

Those excerpts... whoo boy.

Dan McGrath wrote four episodes of "The Simpsons" and each one is a fuckin' banger. I never met him, but his work had a profound impact on my young (at the time) mind.

"Bart of Darkness" -- the S6 premiere -- is a personal fave. "Kippers for breakfast, Aunt Helga? Is it St. Swithin's day already?"
Bill Oakley shared this sad news on Twitter, hadn’t seen it here yet: Dan McGrath has passed away.

A fantastic writer for SNL, Simpsons, Mission Hill (he wrote many fan’s favorite episode), King of the Hill, The PJs, and Gravity Falls. Any comedy nerd of the last 40 years knows so much of his work

GenAI will provide the solution to this problem. Soon you'll be able to cram the iconic eldritch clown into any unrelated movie you want, from the dystopian fascist worlds of King's "The Running Man" / "The Long Walk" to finally realizing the potential of "My Dinner with Andre and Pennywise".

Trek fans, one of my favorite Trek-related accounts needs our help!

And if you're not following @nocontexttrek1.bsky.social, you're missing out on some of the most impeccably timed pulls from across the franchise. Their posts are always a bright spot on my timeline.

Please give them some love!

This isn't therapy via tech. It's delusion, and I really believe it is harmful. Talking to a business for decades instead of actual loved ones that are here with us is not beneficial to anyone except the company.

There's a lot to be said in regards to generative AI / LLMs as a tool for fascism and information control. Naturally the VP is a fan of the model that advocated for Nazi leadership before taking on the moniker MechaHitler.

Remember, all these "tools" are being used to sway minds. Even yours.

So much handwringing over a franchise that has always had lose continuities between entries. They're just pulp spy films -- the more the character exists a little outside of a specific time, the better.

We're 27 movies deep on this character (29 if you count the non-EON films) -- audiences get it.

Several from "Pod People" are regularly said in my household:

"It's called evil, kid."

"Food, eating, the theater!"

"Oh, little potatoes!" / "This potato's got big ears."

And for absolutely no reason at all in our current climate, the perennial "Trumpy, you can do stupid things!"
Does anyone else have an MST3K line they use regularly, even if it makes no sense out of context?

Because I have both "That'll keep your panfish down for a while." and "Come come, boys, we must confound Jerry at every turn!" from MST3K the movie alone.
