✨Story Time!✨
Families are already moving to Multnomah County because of Preschool For All. They see how the program which is helping them set down roots now, will also help put them in a position to pay into it to help future families, creating a virtuous cycle and a healthy, thriving community.💛

I just got tear gassed along with thousands of union members, many of whom had their families with them. Federal agents at the ICE facility tear gassed children. We must abolish ICE, DHS, and we must have prosecutions. I expect to see enforcement of our city code prohibiting the use of tear gas.

Aside from the tone-deafness of these priorities, the "business taxes have increased by an astonishing 81%" is a textbook case of lying with statistics. Let's look at the likely source for this claim: an EY report commisioned by Oregon Business & Industry: oregonbusinessindustry.com/wp-content/u...

We live in one of the least-taxed, most unequal countries on Earth. It's unsurprising, but utterly shameless, for the Portland Metro Chamber to continue to pedal the fiction that Portland's businesses are especially tax burdened.

Abolish ICE, prosecute and imprison its leaders, impeach and remove the President from office. This is the only sane reaction to a group of armed men kidnapping and gunning down our neighbors in the street.
As tens of thousands across America protest the violence that ICE sows with impunity, federal agents shot and killed another person in Minneapolis today.

ICE terrorizes our cities. ICE puts us all in danger. Abolish ICE.

Reminder: the GOP DIDN'T HAVE the votes to fund DHS yesterday.

The only reason they got the funding was because these seven Democrats handed it to them on a silver platter.
DHS is murdering American citizens.

Abducting children.

Violating the 4th Amendment.

Posting White Nationalist propaganda.

And these seven Dems just voted to give them $65B to fund their reign of terror against our cities.

Throw them out of Congress.

Throw them out of the Democratic Party.

This must be weird news to see if you’re one of the literally hundreds or even thousands of university administrators who preemptively censored faculty, scrubbed websites, changed the names of centers, etc.

Recent Events Could Shift the Debate Over Who Should Run City Council
The result is that when the council resumes deliberations this week, Peacock will have a much stronger case that it can mount an uncompromised response to the right-wing agenda Portlanders most fear.

These people need to be opposed unequivocally. The era of these PBA-aligned “power players” is over
The Mercury has obtained a series of images of group messages that show racist, sexist, and homophobic tropes used by a local developer and other local conservative political activists during a council president election. Readers may find this content offensive.

Waking up to the news that the US has bombed Venezuela, kidnapped its president, and will now seek to decide its fate (i.e. “liberate” its natural resources). We don’t have money for basic infrastructure in our local communities, but we can always start new wars? Absolutely sickening.

ICYMI: Preschool for All might end up creating universal preschool ahead of schedule despite ongoing attacks from local business interests and politicians who argue every which way that the big struggle families face in President Trump's America is wealthy people paying too many income taxes✨
9 stories to kick off your day: The Preschool for All initiative in Multnomah County may achieve universal preschool sooner than planned. In St. John's, ICE agents made an arrest of a father in the presence of his children. Oregon is surpassing its 1950s records for confirmed whooping cough cases.

Less visible homelessness in downtown Portland doesn’t mean there’s less homelessness in Portland.
In the week since Mayor Wilson began enforcing the public camping ban, we are seeing MORE tents in East Portland. Those folks are just being swept into my district.

I told the mayor that this is what would happen and asked him to bring extra resources to East PDX to meet the displaced. He did not.
