Oxfordian Northamptonian who can identify some species and teach a bit of Biology. Science-Faith. ME/CFS. Loves God. Talks about daft things & laughs too loudly. Starting new slow adventures.
I've always liked Taylor Swift's music but have never been a Swiftie who gets at all invested: but having watched that episode of Graham Norton live back in the autumn, I feel cosily like I'm in on a private joke, and that's a weirdly sweet feeling.

Well, no wonder it's all felt so bleak 😐 show me some blue sky, please, for the love of everything
It's rained every day of the year so far in parts of the UK and it's another wet day for many of us today 🌧️

Here's a look at the radar over the last couple of days 👇

Wow
Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

Well, it's here, yes it's here, the most miserable tiiiiiime of the year...
Yesterday's Word Count = 798
Finnemore & Pearse
Oh nobody is merry
On the fifth of February
With Christmas Gone
And Summer still as distant as can be.
It is quite close to Valentines
But we all know for ninety nine
Percent of us that’s lonely, stressful
Boring or all three.

I adore Jane Austen, her writing is exquisite, I wouldn't change a *thing*. Exceept. Just this one bit when Mrs Bennett is telling Mr Bennett about Bingley...

'What is his name?'
'Bingley.'
'Is he married or single?'
'Oh, single, my dear, to be sure. [Single Bingle. Singly Bingley] A single man...'

4 February 1925 | A French Jewish woman, Ginette Kolinka (née Cherkasky), was born in Paris.

She was deported to #Auschwitz from Drancy in April 1944. She was transferred to Bergen-Belsen and then to #Theresienstadt. She survived.
Today she turns 101.

A few days ago, I stood in the graveyard of an 1100 year old church, getting damper and damper in the drizzling rain.

A woman walked into the graveyard, waved, said hello, and, as we had previously arranged, handed me a paper bag full of human bones.

The life of a churchwarden is a strange one...

The dishwasher has stacked incredibly pleasingly this evening. Just thought you'd like to know. I got the empty jam jar in a perfect little gap. 👌🏻

I am very suspicious of Mervin's brother 😬 I was already suspicious because in the series trailer there's a bit where he's in a spot of bother, and gasps and says "you?!" (Very Wallace & Gromit) and I just think given what we know this series storyline is...we're suspicious, no? #DeathInParadise

This is ticking along nicely still, would love to have you on board. I don't feel bad promoting it because I'm comfortably making a loss on it. Trailer from @matryer.bsky.social once more.

Folks, please don’t tell artists they shouldn’t be making or selling their art right now. For many, it’s how they pay the bills. Art is vital during times like this. ALL ART. Whether it’s a protest sign or a book cover or just a beautiful drawing. It’s part of the heart of humanity.

Lordy. OK. Unsurprisingly, as a tutor, I have thoughts. I'm in a crash, so forgive me if I just splurge them without lots of coherence.

I come from a relatively low income home. I received grants to go to university, and, crucially, before that, when I was in sixth form, I received EMA +
We want to make sure tutoring isn't the preserve of a lucky few, but accessible to every child who needs it.

AI can help us do that.

Safe, personalised, one-to-one learning support to help every child achieve and thrive.

I survived. It was too warm and I hadn't eaten enough before I went, and it was longer than I expected because instead of booking me a subsequent appointment she just did the work I needed there and then (this is v positive, but I hadn't necessarily budgeted energy today for it) But I survived. 👍🏻
I have to go to the dentist today for the first time since before lockdown, and I like to think I'm relatively resilient, but the AMOUNT of active mental work I'm having to do to convince myself this is totally fine is genuinely exhausting. Why do I hate this so much? Why am I so anxious?

Auschwitz was at the end of a process. We must remember that it did not start from gas chambers.

This hatred gradually developed: from ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder.

Auschwitz took time.

Lot of people worried about going to the World Cup in America now but as long as you don’t do anything completely crazy like help a woman up who’s been pushed over then you have nothing to worry about and hopefully won’t be executed in the street. Enjoy it! ⚽️

I apologise, I love #TheGreatPotteryThrowdown, l love animals week, I love raku week. But I'm afraid there's no such thing as a 'mother silverback gorilla'. Silverback is a description of adult males who turn silver as a sign of maturity and status, not a species of gorilla. No silver mothers!

Me, replying to a text about some family moving house: fingers crossed the process goes well for them
My phone's autocorrect: 'got'
Me: what do you mean, 'got'? I typed 'for'? Don't change it to 'got'?
My phone: .....'goes well got them' doesn't make sense, you should change that.

I feel like Barney Walsh is just an AI rendering of a smiling Saturday night TV host. I don't know what it is about him on Gladiators, but I would swear he has no inner life. No complexity. He is simply programmed to roll his eyes good-naturedly at his 'dad' and shout, "this is THE EDGE"
