I did finally get them out back together, after giving up last night and trying again this morning. Also there were stickers that came with the repair kit so that's fun

Ok what I failed to mention just now was that somehow in the middle of all of this I managed to unseat this little pivot thing that now is proving tricky to re-seat. Also I'm this picture you can see where that little plastic piece came from (to the right of the white strip)

Ok well I STILL couldn't open it all the way, but I did open it enough that this lil guy fell out, and since I don't hear anything knocking around in there anymore, I believe this is the culprit! Now let's see if I can put this all back together.....

AHA!!!!! I pried it open at a slightly different place and I found: more screws!

I think I might be able to open the ear cup and secure that loose part, but it looks like I need a very small screwdriver with a triangular tip??? This will require more research.....
