This is an argument for investing in solar or nuclear which produce energy, it is not an argument for investing in data centers which consume energy

#rustlang hot take: We should rename .unwrap() to .or_panic(). (And .expect() to .or_panic_with().) "Unwrap" is a terrible name for the panicking function, especially since we also have things like .unwrap_or() and .unwrap_or_default() which never panic.

Yes, Mr. Madison, I get your concerns about fiendish foreign princes and such, but here's the thing: in the year 2026 the literal Pope will be eligible to run for POTUS while the mayor of New York City is not. Maybe go back to the drawing board and give that one another go. Not your best work.

Though with patience He stands waiting, With exactness grinds He all.

nu-Witcher is doing the same weird flat nasal delivery that Perrin had in Wheel of Time and it’s throwing me because I’ve never heard anyone talking like that in real life or on tv before 2020

sort of genuinely have no idea what happens when the Epstein shit reaches the White House. literally every scandal so far he's gone "nah" and it's worked pretty well. excited to see if he wriggles his way out of this jam, I guess

lol in like 2010 my wife’s calculus teacher didn’t know what a unit circle was and would at least once a week ask my little brother (also taking the class) to read the textbook and explain something to her (the teacher)
Well this is disturbing. A report from UC San Diego finds that CA high schools are systematically turning out students who think they've passed AP math courses with As but effectively have middle school math skills. substack.com/home/post/p-...

I mentioned this a week ago and got a few "no thanks grandpas" - which, fair, I get it. But people want to find their friends!

We resolved not to touch this until we could reasonably solve enumeration attacks and consent from all parties. I'm optimistic, but we're presenting for scrutiny now
"Find friends by phone" is a common tool in social networks. We're proposing a secure scheme and requesting comments from the dev community.

Goals:
・Double opt-in: you're not findable by your phone unless YOU use the tool
・Secure to enumeration attacks
・Resistant to decryption if compromised
Request For Comments: A secure contact import scheme for social networks | Bluesky
This article outlines plans for a future Bluesky feature \- it doesn’t exist yet\! By sharing our ideas early, we hope to solicit feedback from the community.

What perfect album came out the year you turned 16?

listen there is only one conceivable choice for “perfect album” in 2006. I’m not even an MCR fan but the bands I actually listen to consistently either straddled 2006 or released very mid placeholder albums.

I soaked one in water, and burned another one to see how the scents changed, and the water made it stronger and accentuated the pine forest scent, and the toasted one smelled like camping and stars and a cold, crisp evening in the mountains.

TPWS is a key safety system in UK trains, so my Class 80x cab needed a precisely replicated TPWS control panel.
