Looking for a pair of under-the-radar, gritty crime flicks worth your time to watch? Hazard follows a mostly good-hearted Appalachian drug dealer during the opioid crisis. She Rides Shotgun is about a father & all he cares about being hunted by a violent & untouchable white supremacist gang.
If watched with the proper perspective (especially if you are a man), this movie is outstanding. It is from a woman's point of view about an underappreciated and overworked woman who has had enough. Being the only male in a family of six, I adored this movie. Um, it's kind of accurate, too.

My dad, Monte Ellis, was a naturalist & wildlife artist. Oddly, an atheist, believing in nature & evolution, it did not stop him from pursuing other subjects like Christmas time. Included is his painting of Jesus & birth drawing. He passed in 2009. Much of his work is viewable thru a Google search.

An outstanding and beautifully filmed movie depicting the life of a humane man as he struggles through a harsh world that is slowly stripping his humanity from his body like bark from a tree. Will Patton's narration is also so well done.

The UK's Restless from 2024 is one of the most dreadfully suspenseful films I have seen in some time. It portrays the downward spiral of a middle-aged woman as she deals with her unruly new neighbor. The ending is so outstanding & satisfying & I doubt any will see it coming - I know I didn't.

The UK's Restless from 2024 is one of the most dreadfully suspenseful films I have seen in some time. It portrays the downward spiral of a middle-aged woman as she deals with her unruly new neighbor. The ending is so outstanding & satisfying & I doubt any will see it coming - I know I didn't.

Now, here is another gem I have never seen: Ray Winstone in Scum from 1979. This is a brutal & enraging film (there is also an earlier version from 1977 that is supposedly even more brutal). Winstone, around 22 at the time, plays an incarcerated young male & the horrors involved. Just brutal.

Folks, folks, folks, if you were a fan of HBO's first season of True Detective, then Spain's 2014 Marshland might be just the right fit. This is, hands down, one of the best police/detective procedurals I have seen in a long time, if not, ever. Outstanding & streaming for free all over.
