Obviously it will vary from case to case, but as a general rule of thumb, if you’re in power and you have to choose between doing something good and something that voters agree with, but that is objectively bad, which should you normally do?

Really poor people won’t be affected by this issue specifically — though they *will* be affected by cuts in the republican bill from the summer — as they’ll be on Medicaid. The people this hurts most are those just above the Medicaid income threshold who need exchange ACA plans.

So we need to do what we can to make people HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE. If you give them money, lots of them won’t buy it bc they’ll simply hope they don’t get sick/hurt.

the really really big issue is what happens not when you need like $8,000 toward a deductible but when you need $800,000 because you need surgery and radiation and weeks inpatient in the hospital and tons of specialist visits etc etc. For that you need *insurance*.
