Reminder that "jaywalking" was literally made up by american car manufacturers to shift the blame for accidents from drivers to pedestrians. "Jay" was a slang term meaning "idiot" or "rube".
“Jaywalking is permitted in London. In 1966, the police tried to crack down on it, but gave up after three months.”

People walk and cycle on roads by right, people drive under licence.

Jaywalking is not a thing in English law and Waymo must not change that.

Waymo’s cars were first rolled out in San Francisco, but the English capital’s old roads, pelican crossings and jaywalkers may pose issues for AI, says science and technology professor Jack Stilgoe

Matthew Goodwin objects to prosecuting this: ‘I think it’s time for the British to gang together, hit the streets and start the slaughter. Violence and murder is the only way now. Start off burning every migrant hotel then head off to MPs’ houses and Parliament, we need to take over by FORCE.’

We just finished watching House of Guinness on Netflix and loved it.

Any other recommendations for dark autumn nights on Netflix, BBC, or Channel 4, new or old? Love period things but doesn't have to be!

(And if you haven't seen it, check out House of Guinness!)

This is a "recommended" tweet pushed to a (very much not-Nazi) contact's iPhone lockscreen last week.

Who knows how many millions it was pushed to by Musk's platform, including in this case, in the UK?

It's now been deleted, but only after getting thousands of RTs.

These two are very different things with quite different consequences!
FWIW people are currently more likely to believe the moon landings were hoaxes staged by NASA than the claims on paracetamol. Though of course trajectory of debates could shape these figures.

Okay but 13% is incredibly and dangerously high...
🆕 The US debate about taking paracetamol in pregnancy does not appear to be shaping opinions here in the UK. Just 13% of Britons say they think it is either generally or completely unsafe to take paracetamol during pregnancy.

First I heard about it was when welders came home saying ‘there’s people painting white crosses on black people’s doors on our street’.

Fucking disgusting. That’s what it is. And that’s what politicians need to call it
