If they ask you
if you are planning
on wearing your mask
forever,
tell them you know
that you will not last
forever,
but you’re willing
to do what you can
to take care of others
for as long
as you are still here.

Last week UN CRPD committee released a report that among other things, called on Canada to repeal Track 2 MAiD.

Story here by @mikehager.bsky.social with comments from @trudolem.bsky.social and myself.

United Nations report recommends Canada repeal MAID for people without terminal illnesses
International committee also called on Ottawa to scrap the proposed expansion of MAID eligibility in 2027 to people whose sole underlying illness is a mental disorder

All of the Administration for Community Living's Center for Policy and Evaluation staff were laid off. For @motherjones.com, I talked to its former heard and an employee terminated today on the irony of getting rid of a department that focuses on efficiency....

RFK Jr.'s HHS just dismantled a center focused on efficiency
The firing of all staff at the Center for Policy and Evaluation makes no sense as a cost-cutting measure.

Hey a great way to start organzing and protect your community is to wear an N95 or better as were in a "quademic." No one is saving you if you become disabled. Community organizing regularly leaves disabled people for dead. Actively pursue anti-ableist organaizing.

@walkerbragman.bsky.social and I collaborated on this look at how Biden’s refusal to confront the ongoing COVID pandemic - while ending every government program that dealt with its impacts- helped re-elect Donald Trump.

It’d be really great if people like the Menswear Guy and the Onion Dude would get over themselves and use alt text.

It would be even better if people didn’t share their stuff without adding it.

Disabled folks pointed out how inaccessible and hostile it is to have a large gathering like this in a small space without masking or air purification.

For that, they are getting screamed at, insulted, and called “wreckers.”

These DSA folks are repeating right wing propaganda about covid.
man it’s hard to see images like this.

NY DSA had a meeting with 10x their normal turnout. They did not request or require masks.

And so, in the middle of a surge, only 3 people in this packed space are masking, and there are no visible air cleaning devices.

Not even Corsi-Rosenthal boxes.

I understand the allure of wanting to be a "carry guns and wear leather jackets" Black Panther but there's a case to be made that the most dangerous ones were the "feed kids breakfast and teach them about settler colonialism" Black Panthers
I hope we Americans can let go of our desire to be the individual Chosen One who leads the rebellion and punches every Nazi. Organizing is hard, it takes experience and resources and time. Stop fantasizing about being a superhero. Start joining existing groups and be part of collective action.
