SCARLET ALLIANCE STATEMENT Queensland World AIDS Day Parliamentary Breakfast & Trans Solidarity Queensland’s ban on gender-affirming healthcare for trans youth is cruel and unscientific. It has devastated hundreds of trans young people and their families. Scarlet Alliance stands firmly against this ban. We acknowledge that our attendance at the Queensland World AIDS Day Parliamentary Breakfast has caused concern. This matters to our communities. We want to be clear about who we are and what we stand for. Scarlet Alliance exists to advance the health and human rights of sex workers and to challenge laws and policies that harm us. Trans sex workers are at the heart of our movement: as members, leaders, and voices shaping our advocacy. We cannot and will not abandon the trans community. The World AIDS Day Parliamentary Breakfast is an annual community-led event. This year it was hosted by HIV, LGBTIQ+, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, drug user, and sex worker organisations. Each year representatives from both major political parties are invited to attend, speak and listen to a range of speakers representing the community organisations. The HIV sector has a long history of engaging across political lines to advocate for our communities. We know this approach will not feel right to everyone, and we take that tension seriously.
