🚨Our first 'emergency' pod?

In this special release we ask question of and reflect on the government's new draft safeguarding guidance that now includes a section on 'children who question their gender'

We've got some concerns...

My Dad died from a brain tumour caused by CNS lymphoma a year ago.

It’s a rare and underfunded disease. If anyone would like to support, we are raising money for charity.

This is the link to the consultation on the changes to KCSIE. Let's flood the consultation with responses pointing out why it's so problematic and will make children and young people less safe. I started teaching when section 28 was still in place. Not again!

New DFE guidance on 'Gender questioning' children as part of KCSIE out today. Citing the flawed Cass review. The same week that a FOI to the National Child Mortality Database showed an increase in suicide in trans kids since pathways were restricted. Following the science would not lead to this doc.

Thinking about the boys who were stabbed at school yesterday, and the wonderful staff at Kingsbury High who do their best to support their school community. It's sad to see media outlets & individuals using this tragedy to construct a narrative about Islam, instead of care for the children involved.

When you say that everyone's rights and freedoms are interconnected, you often get blank or puzzled responses. To highlight this point, hunger striker Qesser Zuhrah is being denied an ambulance at Bronzefield, the same prison that denied care for Aisha Cleary during labour.

Considering Streeting's well stated belief autism, ADHD etc, along with mental health issues, are "overdiagnosed", I won't hold my breath for this doing anything other than being used to cut support, along with opportunities for diagnosis, for people who need it. #r4today

Blood on their hands;

EVERY "gender-critical" transphobe - yes including the very rich ones, the bigoted "journalists" who abuse their power, the unacademic academics and the "comedians" who make transphobic "jokes" - are respnsible for this poor cis women's death.

Transphobia *harms* cis women.
Marie McGowan, 89, has died 3 years after a brutal assault during which she was put headfirst into a rubbish bin. Her attacker, Alex Bailey, believed she was "a man dressed as a woman."

This is the world the transphobes are creating "to protect women."

RIP Marie. share.google/PFaI5YTh9tBw...

UK's Labour Party abandoned transgender people. The gambit to pursue rightwing voters by abandoning a targeted minority failed, and now they're facing the prospect of a historic loss.

US Dems could learn a lot from their failure.

Great piece from S. Baum.

Recently in consultation meetings I've met children who have been racially abused by other children. This has retraumatised their parents and is also retraumatising for me. Racism is a safeguarding issue as outlined in KCSIE. It should be treated as such.

Disappointed in the new occupants at the DfE quite generally tbh and I'm not afraid to say it. Too much flattery goes on in the sector where people want to have influence and I don't think it's healthy for education. #EduSky

Just been reading the DfE's new writing framework and it seems to push even more for formalising the Reception year. Every time I speak to teachers on the ground they stress the need for active, playful approaches to learning in the early years and this is not that. #EduSky

Parenting a child with SEND as a psychologist means administering and scoring questionnaires by day, and answering them yourself in your downtime. It's very draining but has also made me think about how and why I use them in my practice.
