In 2018, Meta decided “clean energy” and “climate change” were politically sensitive topics, and demanded that I - a climate scientist - register as a political org to post and boost posts on them.

I refused, and my page has been shadow banned since then. For 7 years. Until this week, that is 😳

Research from Dr Inge Kersbergen has won an #IgNobelPrize following a study on how alcohol affects foreign language skills.

The Ig Nobels highlight research that is both entertaining and thought-provoking, often showcasing the curious and playful side of science.

Before someone jumps on me for not talking about this: I have nothing to say about the death of Charlie Kirk. I feel for his family. I fear the consequences. I mourn ALL the victims of the 47 school shootings which have taken place in the US already this year. Gun violence in schools is horrifying.

Our new study finds that the upper atmosphere is becoming more sheared and less stratified because of climate change. Both these changes are making the atmosphere less stable and more conducive to turbulence.

University of Reading research shows that clear-air turbulence, which is invisible to aircraft, is set to get worse.

This is the US National Energy Laboratory (NREL)'s 1Q 2025 update on the US and global PV market, with some great data points. (California generated 32% of electricity from PV in 2024 though iirc some nuance in generation vs consumption due to imports).

I do bloody love this chart. Who'd have thought, 20 years ago, that solar would be ~10% of world electricity generation by 2024 - and over 20% in some countries, rising rapidly in others?

Definitely not me. When I started this job I hoped to be part of a solution for maybe 1% of global electricity.
