If you’re a journalist writing about the Kirk murder and you don’t know what the Groyper Wars are, I beg you to find someone who knows what the Groyper Wars are before you write your article

As a kid, my family used to spend Labor Day weekend camping with a few other families. The moms did basically everything, and the dads' "help" often wasn't. Like when my dad tried to reheat pizza by putting the box over the fire. Or spent a whole day rigging up a mini TV to watch a football game. 1/
On this Labor Day, let's remember that today isn't likely to offer a respite for those--disproportionately women, and especially women of color, immigrant women, and low-income women--who do the unpaid and underpaid labor of care. In fact, that labor may even be greater on days "off" like today. 1/🧵

Yesterday the Social Security Administration sent a highly misleading & political press release about the tax bill to my work account, where I'd signed up for SSA updates.

Then overnight I got it again, this time to my personal account. And I heard from lots of others who did, too. 🧵

90 years ago today, FDR signed the Social Security Act of 1935 into law.

If Democrats fight to protect our democracy and protect people's health care this fall during the budget negotiations with Republicans, Americans will be on our side. The country doesn't want a dictatorship and they don't want 40% insurance premium increases.

Duty! Toward one's fellows! A Rooseveltian vision the US could stand to reembrace.
In outlining his reason for a national program of social insurance, FDR stated:

"It is our plain duty to provide for that security upon which welfare depends."

We lay out why that goal is as essential today: #ProtectSocialSecurity 1/3 🧵

Today’s a great day to remind everyone that Social Security has a fraud rate of 0.00625%, which is far lower than private sector retirement programs.
