I will add the following: our students lack the research skills required to audit an LLM essay for errors. They don’t arrive on campus with these skills; we teach it to them over four long years. So throwing freshmen in the deep end and saying “swim your way to a shore of rectitude” is folly.

As my mother puts it, "If someone's pot is upside down, you can't fill it with water." I have written that down, and taped it to my desk. 🖋📜💡

In a professional society, complaint may change the society for the better. But if leadership takes a dim view of complaint, opportunities for complainers to do good from within may be closed off. Ideally leadership understands complaint—public or anonymous—as communication, & listens & learns.

Was told you can't rely on members to show up & do the work. A sad view. I co-chaired two committees (Cultural Diversity Committee & Graduate Education Committee) and was a member of a third (Program Committee). In all cases, these were affirming experiences with knowledgeable & reliable people.
