Fun with introductory Physics, part 135:

Me: A car passes you at 75 mph. Your car starts at rest, accelerates uniformly, and catches up in 20 seconds. What's your speed when you catch the other car?

Student: About 10% of orbital velocity?

Me: (blank stare)

Student: Is acceleration 9.8?

Dear Humans,

Here’s how it’s going to play out:

1. Republicans are going to attack Joe Biden until his last day and giddily celebrate his passing.

2. Then when Donald Trump inevitably passes away, and the world celebrates, these same people will feign outrage until the end of time.

They suck.

I'm told the typical time from exposure to symptoms is 7-14 days, and this exposure took place 8 days ago. So I'm keeping an eye on our local MAGA hotbed of Grapevine and hoping we don't lose any more children in Texas due to idiot parents. #measles

Yes, the stock market may be tanking and our national security apparatus has never been more vulnerable and we're on the verge of both economic collapse and war, but it was all worth it to keep pronouns out of email signatures.

For me, I'm fascinated that JD Vance's first reaction to the whole Signal discussion affair was that he was worried what Pervert Hoover would think.

His first thought wasn't "oh no, have we been compromised possibly by a foreign adversary?" It was, "I hope I don't get in trouble with Master."

One of the great delusions of the right-wing minor wealth class is that you can endlessly slash public services in advance of a crisis but somehow, somewhere, private reserves of trained and equipped professionals will be standing ready for a reasonable convenience fee when the shit hits the fan.

I was helping my granddaughter with her science experiment yesterday, and I helped her create a series circuit with a little electronics kit her class provided. She had to build the circuit and label it and take a picture of it, so I gave her an index card.

She wrote "Siris circuit".

People celebrating Luigi Mangione, the health care CEO assassin, need to understand that vigilante killings are not celebrated or in any way condoned in the United States. We are a civilized country that values the lives of its citizens.
