That’s not “a lot”, really. That works out to an average taxpayer cost of something like $19/month. That less than the cost of two cheeseburgers from Five Guys.

I’m betting that they didn’t throw anything away. either they negotiated a contract that lets them keep at least most of the money, even if Paramount decides to cancel them; or, they calculated this move not caring if they lose the money, to prove the point that not everyone can be bought.
