Which will please all of the wrong people.
With the falling birthday rate not looking like it's increasing anytime soon, we need more skilled migrants than ever before, particularly as we're losing all those billionaires...
NEW: Net migration falls sharply to 204,000 in the year to June.

That’s a fall from 649,000 in the year to June 2024. It is a drop of nearly 80% from its 2023 peak.

Damn you for inflicting the "Dear Prudence" earworm upon me...
“prudence”
You just cannot take the iPaper seriously when it wheels out Kwasi ‘mini budget’ Kwarteng to comment on the budget.
We don’t *ever* want to hear from this arrogant clown again.

I give you some decendants of immigrants for you to make your own mind up about their legacy to the UK's well-being:

Kami Badenoch, Priti Patel, Rishi Sunak, Nadim Zahawi, Suella Braverman, Kwasi Kwarteng, and of course Nigel Farage

I'll drink to that!!
And honestly I don't give a fuck if it's popular or not. It's going to make a lot of kids' lives better. That's the point of government. Not an opinion poll.

It occurred to me while listening to this that had a company taken or not taken decisions that resulted in so many unnecessary deaths, they would be charged to corporate manslaughter.
Why then, if a govt's actions contributed to these deaths, is the only sanction to vote them out of office?

Rarely travel by train myself so this won't affect me personally but It'll be of huge benefit to tens of thousands that do.
Thank you Labour!

For the first time in 30 years, rail fares are to be frozen and will NOT be increased in January.

It will save some people hundreds of pounds a year compared to if prices had risen as usual.

I know some people want fares to go down, but Ice said before having them...

First rail freeze in 30 years to ease the cost of living
Rail fares frozen for the first time in 30 years in historic intervention to deliver real savings for millions of commuters.

I know @mrjamesob.bsky.social is a huge fan of Cameron...

🧐🙃🙃
I'll never forget the line from Cameron where he ( reportedly ) said he wanted to be PM because he thought he'd be
"quite good at it"

Quite how we prevent this unwarranted entitlement is beyond me.

A former acquaintance of mine - also an Old Etonian - who had never expressed a political sentiment in the ten years I'd known him said much those same words to me ca 2001.

He viewed it as "something to do" because he didn't really have to work like the rest of us.

Ah yes, this is where the UK government was found to have failed in adequately investigating evidence of successful Russian interference in democratic processes. The report criticizes the lack of a thorough inquiry into these activities.

Basically, they found nothing because they didn't look.
Which Russia Report? The one which was published in 2020?

Dale is right of course however, I fear the likes of Farage, Tice etc have made the subject of immigration so toxic that a sensible, reasoned debate is out of the question.
Fact is we need some balance in the ‘debate’ on immigration - studies show that people coming here are more likely to work and pay tax than the gen pop - and they make a net economic contribution.
