In my 15 years working with districts to help make high school mathematics JOYFUL, MEANINGFUL, and EQUITABLE, I have found quality curriculum can have a tremendous impact.

So, I've been working to make such curriculum freely available:

Anyone know of an applet that will allow a user to draw a “modified” unit circle (not perfectly circular) and see the periodic function that results from it? Or something similar. cc: @hpicciotto.bsky.social @jlanier.bsky.social @averypickford.bsky.social @benjamindickman.bsky.social

Lovely #oracy work on indices in #MathsToday. We haven't covered negative indices yet but this got them pondering negative indices and considering non integer values for a and b as well as 0 and 1. Looking forward to delving deeper next lesson.

Climate change was predicted long before it arrived, thanks to the power of modeling. This Quanta Magazine piece shows how scientists used computer models to understand and forecast the planet’s future.

#Statistics #teaching often focuses on rote learning of mean/median/mode & graph drawing, but this is not what education research says. In fact, since the early 90s recommendations have been remarkably consistent!

Hi @comapmath.bsky.social! Question for you: How can someone get started in coaching a math modeling team? Do you (or others) offer any kind of training to support new team coaches?

Eleanor Duckworth's reminder: The more intensely interested a teacher is in a student’s thinking, the more interested the student becomes in his or her own thinking.

Corollary: The more a teacher just wants to see right answers, the less interested students become in their (or any) thinking.

Ones that could have their place in any curriculum, one that should be studied in PGCE courses, ones that started whole new genres of tasks...
... or just ones you really like.

I know some people are super jazzed about ‘data science,’ but a basic intro to graph theory, linear algebra, and probability seem increasingly important topics for high school mathematics, to me.

What do you think?
