Looks like the only one of these inductees who had been previously honored in the various Latin American-based Halls of Fame is Carmelo Martínez. He was inducted into the Caribbean Baseball Hall of Fame in 2004. In 35 CARS games, he hit 10 HR, batted .277, and slugged .589. He was MVP in 1987.

We just covered the White Brothers in our latest episode! James was the HOF’er but Will’s career was sneaky amazing - if multiple 40 win seasons can be sneaky.

Aw man, RIP George Altman. After appearing with the 1955 Kansas City Monarchs, he finally made the majors in 1959 with the Cubs. He was an All-Star in 1961 (.303, 27 HR, 96 RBI) and 1962 (.318, 22 HR, 74 RBI, 19 SB). He hit 101 homers in a 9-year career. He was 92 years old.

I know I told this story on the other site, but I worked for an indy league baseball team in Lynn, MA during the summer of 1997. Midway through the season, we signed Oil Can to a contract.

New Episode out now!

Rogelio Moret, a can’t miss prospect out of Puerto Rico who made his debut at just 20. His issues off the field and MLB’s inability to help him culminated in a notorious moment in 1978!

I normally don't really care about year end awards, but Schneider definitely deserved it.

We’ve covered a lot of veterans, but Jack Lohrke survived the Pacific Theatre in WW2 and then luckily survived his baseball career. If you don’t know his story, it’s a must listen!

A great turnout for our SABR Hanlan's Point Chapter autumn meeting at Duke of York in Toronto, with special guest Steve Paikin. We had an engaging conversation about the Blue Jays, Red Sox, and stadiums. Honouring baseball history while looking ahead to the future.

I'm reading Paper of Wreckage, an oral history of the New York Post, and came across Mike Vaccaro reminiscing about the time in 2003 when he brutally zinged then Mets GM Steve Phillips.

He’s talking about tours. Literally bragging about how much the tours bring in year-round.

Yet the Dodgers are refusing to pay a living wage and engaging in union busting.

I think it's really brutal to try to rank Game 7s. Better to group them.

1925 is its own class

This one goes with 1924, 1960, 1991, 1997, 2001, 2016, and I suppose 1975.

They're all amazing (hopefully not missing one - list was off top of mind)

YES! Like, this is the stuff that Manfred took away from us.

(and yes this happened in the WS! Imagine someone using this tactic Vlad Jr. or Ohtani instead of the automatic IBB!)

Only 4 pitchers have recorded a Pitcher’s Cycle — striking out every batter in the opposing lineup — in the World Series:

Trey Yesavage, 2025 G5
Randy Johnson, 2001 G2
Bob Gibson, 1968 G1
Jesse Barnes, 1921 G6
Trey Yesavage struck out all 9 Dodgers at least once tonight, a feat that Herm Krabbenhoft dubbed a “pitcher’s cycle”

The 1906 featured a surprise contender and a solidified juggernaut- sound familiar? Ed’s looked into the 1906 World Series and the White Sox team no one expected to have a chance.

Frank Isbell’s 4 XBH record would not be broken until Monday night!

2001 Diamondbacks or 2016 Cubs

Imaginary: 1994 Expos!
Alright, let's see if I phrase this the right way.

Which World Series victory in your lifetime – NOT featuring your favorite team – brought you the most joy?

(For me I think it's 2019 Nationals with 2016 Cubs close behind.)

Great advice not just for tonight, or a game which happens after an unexpectedly long game the night before, but for ALL sporting events, concerts, and just times out in public.

The people working may be getting paid to be there, but they're still people. Treat them with the kindness they deserve.
Y’all if you’re going to the game tomorrow, be extra nice to stadium workers, the vast majority of whom stood the entire time.
