Anthropologist/Folklorist researching the Dodleston Messages from a pragmatic perspective... cos, honestly, its a bit whacky!

I am starting to wonder about Peter Trinder's role in all of the happenings with Lukas. All of the evidence supporting Lukas/Tomas' history comes through Peter. Its all a bit lucky that Peter just happens to know a lot about Oxford, and Brasenose, and happens to know the Brasenose archivist who is

I *think* I saw the new (19c) inscription above Stairwell 1. Might have got turned around but it was the only inscription in the old quad and says something completely different. Brasenose' records show a different inscription to that given by Lukas/Tomas and Peter.

Still trying to track down the inscription in Brasenose. It appears that it was the 'foundation' stone for the college (it was previously a hall) and sat above Stairwell 1. Seems odd that none of the staff I spoke to knew what I was talking about if it was the college foundation stone.

Interesting. I'm not convinced about platonic computation forms but, multi-verse is a potential explanation for the 'time slip' type aspect of Dodleston (3 dates, one place). I just wish he had expanded further on how it fits Dodleston. Seems based on having heard a paper and not focussed research.

So this is interesting because a) it used to be different for different cultures and b) in English speaking countries it was a witch/hag. Are we seeing media such as Nightmare on Elm St replace folklore? And creating more cultural homogeneity?
🧠 FACT: Sleep Paralysis demons often appear as the same figure worldwide: a tall, dark entity, sometimes wearing a hat ("The Hat Man"). Cultures across continents developed independent legends for this one recurring hallucination. #SleepParalysis

I'm currently out of work, so hoping to dedicate some proper time to Dodleston so want to get some discussion and engagement going.

The first big question:

Is it a time travel, timeslip or interdimensional event?

I've seen it described as a ghost story, but Lukas/Tomas was very much alive!

Just had a listen to Broken Veil and, not gonna lie, they had me in the first few episodes. I started to get suspicious with the package and then fully knew when I spotted that the final ep was published on April 1st.

As much as I enjoyed being fooled and following along with the high strangeness

My other finding is that there is no 'Oxford University'. Each college is its own discrete administrative unit with its own records.

I'm struggling to see how an alum who completed an undergraduate* degree in the 1950s would have such easy access to Tudor MSS, particularly from colleges not their

The only vaguely concrete finding so far is: no one at Brasenose knew what I was talking about when I asked about the inscription above 'the stairs'. A porter and I had a good poke about, confused a few passing members of staff, but no dice.

As the inscription mention Lincoln, and Lincoln college

Came to Oxford on a 'fact finding mission'.

Grounded research to avoid confirmation bias is surprisingly difficult in 2025. It's impossible to just talk to people and get a feel for what it is going on. Everything is behind email or webpages with the info they think I want, not what I've asked!

Whenever someone sneers at bus spotters I invite them to look through local history pages on Facebook. A huge number of the old photos that people wax lyrical about have a bus in the foreground. So it is the bus spotters who are chronicling our history, and better than most.

Ooooh... seems I'm not the only one planning a proper deep dive into what happened at Dodleston. Not sure if a high profile investigation would help or hinder my work but it definitely means I need to get off my proverbial and start actually writing...

It was surprisingly good! All happened in 1989 so no gadgets but loads of images and photos of light phenomena, they know who the entity is and an investigator is genuinely hanged and it is photographed...

Why have I never heard of it? 🧵
Watching 'An Unknown Encounter: The True Account of the San Pedro Haunting' on Amazon Prime. It's dated as 2023 but is so amazingly 80s paranormal documentary it is wonderful... I'm ten minutes in and loving it! Apparently someone gets hanged live!

Plus this guy...

Just watched a documentary on the Dyatlov pass incident. Really quite interesting and a pretty good example of a decent documentary about a mystery.

And certainly a good example of the Streisand effect.

Hey! This project has been delayed due to some 'life events' but I should be back on it in February so if you're interested in keeping up with the research and discussing a bit of stuff then give us a follow and we can get going...

Just 'launched' my blogsite for this research (wordpress has become impossible! Would have been easier on a BBC so don't judge it too harshly) Please retweet and help me find some interested peeps...
