Its the same with a lot of bigotry - homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, ableism - it was quieter and there were repurcussions. Now it is loud and allowed and its come as a shock to a lot of well meaning but sheltered people.

Racism was less obvious to people it did not target because it was deemed socially unacceptable. As a white person I thought we were doing better. Its disappointing to discover that we weren't. And that disappointment, while valid, is then expressed badly... because we're racist!

Thats the problem with it - not the product, but how it is created and the very real costs to everyone.

I'm not sure letting someone sit down for 60 seconds rather than making them go out and come back in is 'capitulating' it is just common sense and good customer service. I have done it for years. No point risking upsetting someone for the sake of literal seconds.

Yeah, but you didn't read the parentheses that clearly stated this related to people making stuff up and not people who are actually ill. All structures in capitalism expect everyone to power through being ill - just look at Lemsip ads. And the thread was started by someone making up being ill.

Man-cold/man-flu is a term referring to exaggeration of symptoms by a certain type of man-baby that was created by our society. Not every instance of a man getting ill. They specifically clarify that in the parentheses. You have brought your own hang ups.

I should point out that I have spent a life in customer service and if you can't tell that letting someone sit down 60 seconds before your opening time is preferable to the row of trying to stop it (which is likely to take at least 60 seconds anyway) then you have a lot to learn.

This isn't some labour rights issue... some person volunteering in a cafe did a daft/unnecessary/petty thing and got called out. Being expected to work outside of paid hours is a genuine problem, but not when that time can be measured is seconds! Grow up!

If you're worried about leaves from a 120 yr old tree park somewhere else or build a shelter/garage. Or buy a broom to brush them off in the morning. There are loads of better (and considerably less illegal) options!

Sometimes things are bad and that affects us and we complain about it. This constant 'but did you consider...?' Is exhausting. Yes I considered it and discounted it before publicly complaining because I am an adult who understands the basics of my society!

Online pop psychology has made people forget that a) some people are just dicks sometime and b) we can tell the difference between someone being genuine and being a dick. We should assume more of each other, not less. If I complain about a thing it is because I *know* the thing was bad.

Its so individual. The first sign I am about to come on is that I lose spacial awareness and cannot park my car for love nor money. I would be worse than useless on the court. But I also get a migraine the day I start, so is the clumsiness period or migraine related? Or something different?

How did you get to this from what was said? She is clearly referring to people who pretend to be ill or iller. No one is saying to ignore when you're ill, just don't pretend or exaggerate. Lots of men get ill without 'manflu' which refers to a slight cold being represented as near fatal!

I have come across people who do this - they hear something incredibly different to what was said and there is no changing their mind. What causes this? I can understand mishearing, but you just explain. I can't figure out what causes this odd outrage filter some people have.
