A black walnut tree shines bright yellow in fall under a clear blue sky and amidst its army-green live oak neighbors. This is the meadow near the main parking lot at Cañada Del Oro open space preserve in Santa Clara county. The meadow is light green with the first sprouts of grass from the earliest rains of the fall rainy season. A Sycamore flanking the walnut tree to the left has a mixture of paler yellow, brown, and green on it. It’s fall leaves.

Here’s a red one I found in the wild at Torrey Pines State reserve near San Diego. I think this is a Mimulus but a different species than the orange ones.

Me too! But this was on Mummy Mountain, which is a hill 10s of miles south of Mount Diablo, but still in the Diablo range.
A photo similar to the one in the OP. A pair of sticky monkey flowers photographed in the Diablo range in California in May. These guys are all over the place and have a really long blooming period. A several cultivars are available for gardening and different species in the same group in different regions of California have different colors ranging from a pale cream to a scarlet or crimson color. Some cult of ours, even have by colored blooms, such as orange edged by white. I have always been told that they are called sticky monkey flowers because the leaves are slightly sticky and someone somewhere imagine the flower looked like a monkey face. I don’t see the resemblance. But in winter when they lose their leaves, they are stick like and they seem to grow anywhere from flatlands to cliff sides. So it’s possible they’re actually named for their winter appearance and their ability to grow in places only a monkey could climb.

A black kitty with gold eyes and shiney fur sprawls on a grey sofa. The angle of the photo makes its tail appear short. Iphone suggests the type of cat is a Bombay or a Manx. Kitty is a mixed breed with many traits suggestive of Bombay ancestry, but without genetic analysis it’s impossible to know.

Oxalis leaves surround a mushroom with a thick white stem and closely-adhered, dark brown, somewhat gooey-appearing cap with a vein arrangement vaguely resembling the arrangement of holes in a morel, but without holes. Any idea what it is?

Rockd says this of the area that confuses me:
Age: pliocene 5.33–2.58 Ma Description: interbedded conglomerate, sandstone, silt stone, tuffaceous sediment, tuff, and the salt. This unit is distinguished from other gravels in the map area by the presence of interbedded, volcanic rocks and beds of non-marine, green and red mud stone, but it’s relatively well consolidated nature, and by its clast composition: about 75% Franciscan rocks and 25% volcanic rocks, Claremont chert, and other Cenozoic rocks. An interbedded basalt has been dated at 2.6 Ma (Nakata and others, 1993) and an interbedded tuff in silver Creek Valley has been dated at about 3 or 4 Ma. (M. Willis, California State University, San Jose. Personal comm. 1995) the base is nowhere exposed, and the section terminates upward at the Silver Creek thrust. Well, when you’re looking at the area, coyote Lake is formed by a dam, but is in one of those formations where you have a fault separation, and the land between drops down sometimes those spontaneously form a lake, but in this case it just had a river valley before the dam.
Coyote lake, a reservoir created by an earthen dam that was later discovered to straddle a fault. View is north from the top of a fault scarp. Steep hills covered with gold grass, brown chemise, and studded with scattered oaks and grey pine on the right (Pallasou ridge) smooth, reflective lake in the middle, mixed oak woodland on the left, under a pale blue sky with pale sleek clouds. Notice that most of the forest you see on the left is far below; this is not a drone shot but is taken from the top of a cliff. Mummy Mountain Trail, Harvey Bear County park.

Here’s some incidental lichens in photos taken for other reasons to hold the lichen-lovers over until you come back with your lichen portfolio:
Spanish moss—actually a lichen—on blue oaks. Blue sky above, steep dry grassy terrain below, elbow of a trail bends around the base of the nearest oak. Henry W. Coe S. P. Braen Canyon trail (formerly Jim Donnelly cutoff tr). Blue sky above a grassy knoll with a wood picnic table and a lichen-crusted rocky outcropping, flanked by live oak and bay tree cluster. Henry W Coe S. P. Jim Donelly trail. A weathered wood barbed-wire-fence post, with another green lichen on it. I forget the common name of this one but it’s another ersatz “moss”. Poison oak toward the right in showy red fall color. Mixed California-native shrubs behind. Henry W Coe S. P. Hunter’s Hollow Rd. A view east off Mummy Mountain trail in Harvey Bear Park. The lichen-crusted boulder at lower right is on the rim of a cliff dropping at least 60 feet. The far hill covered in grass and chamise with oaks and bay in the gullies is Pallasou ridge. The mixed oak grassland valley below is the valley of coyote creek; coyote reservoir is just out of view to the left. Bright but heavily clouded sky.

Past few days very clear. Eg Last week from southern Henry Coe State Park, partway up (1.2 mi)Willson peak trail (yes 2 Ls). Above the distant hills a thin white fog line over the bay, palest thin grey line is Monterey peninsula.
Blue sky over several bands of hills. Furthest, light grey band of hills are the range southwest of Salinas & east of Monterey. They peter out to a point toward the right of the image. The point is the Monterey peninsula. Just below this point on the rights is a thin line of white extending leftward ending in a point. This is a hazy view of Monterey bay. The range of grey hills below this separates Salinas and Hollister and contains Fremont Peak (out of frame to the right, and if you followed it to the left it would extend to include Pinnacles NP, not viewable due to hills blocking the sightline). The range of green, oak forested hills below that lies in Henry Coe Park and blocks view of the rural valley Canada de los Osos, a few additional bands of hills within the same range as the park, and of the town of Hollister. The oak grassland valley below those hills is Hunter’s Hollow (now mislabeled on signage and maps as HuntING Hollow, due to a document error in the 1990s). The nearest hill on the bottom right covered in mixed oak grassland is part of Willson Ridge, which the trail ascends.
